The 10-2-4 times as suggested above were indeed times to drink Dr. Pepper. This advertising campaign was based on research done by Dr. Eddy in the 1920's that showed that a persons energy levels were at their lowest points during the day at 10:30am, 2:30pm, and 4:30pm. So drinking a Pepper and getting all that sugar just prior to those times would pep one up. (No pun intended)

The story behind the 10 2 4 is when most people's sugar level was low. So these are the requested times that was best to drink Dr.Pepper to keep your sugar up.

10 - 2 - 4 THEORY
From 1910 to1914 Dr Pepper was identified with the slogan "King of Beverages" and "Old Doc". A typical country doctor character with monocle and top hat became the Dr Pepper trademark character in the 1920's and 1930's.

During that era O' Hara discovered research proving that sugar provided energy and that the average person experiences a let down during the normal day at 10:30am, 2:20pm and 4:30pm.

That was the origin of the famous advertising slogan "Drink a bite to eat at 10,2, and 4,

A 1920's medical study by Dr. Walter Eddy at Columbia University found the body lags in energy at 10:30, 2:30, and 4:30.  It also found test subjects given food or drink 30 minutes before those times - 10, 2, and 4 - didn't suffer the energy slump.  The Dr Pepper people found out about the study and asked their advertising agency to tie Dr Pepper to it.

Dr. Pepper also supposedly contained Polyethylene Glycol to help reduce foaming when it was served. This chemical, in addition to hundreds of other uses from high performance automotive batteries to marine archeology preservation, is a common stool softener. If you drank one at 10, 2 and 4 you'd stay as regular as a clock!

That is when you "need" one to avoid an energy slump. This was determined in the 1920's.  The only Dr. Pepper bottles that have 10,2,4 on them now are Dublin Dr Peppers made in Dublin, TX.  Made from real sugar instead of artificials.  Tastes much better and more of a boost.  Dr P's version of Jolt.

Dr Pepper marketers did a study and found that the body's blood sugar dips low at certain times during the work day, at 1030, 230 and 430. So back in the 30-40s they advertised that a Dr Pepper (with real cane sugar) at 10 o'clock, 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock would maintain optimum productivity through out the day. And the 10-2-4 campaign was born.
