What causes appendix diseases?

My husband is 47yrs old an out in Iraq. 2wks ago he was flown to Germany for an emergency surgery. It turns out that his appendix had to be removed. He turned out okay we think, I mean, no infections or anything. But, it got us thinking, what would cause the infection in the first place? Would you be so kind as to answer my inquiry in the shortest time allowable, as I am concerned for my husbands well-being. Thank you.

I think the reason for the causes of appendix is that too many seeds are composed in the area of the appendix,this might be the cause of the cramps/pain and when the appendix get infected it start to cramps/pain in the side of our abdomen.This is my answer.
