Well this is just because (more or less) the he or she is a puppy and they don't no any better. I have a Chihuahua and when she was a puppy she would chew on all the toilet paper ever after it was used. Your chihuahua can be broke from the habite. Just keep an eye on your chihuahua and when he or she goes to eat it tell them no or just barely tap them on the bottom and say no. That is exectly how i broke my dog from her habites as a puppy. Oh and don't worry if it sounds harsh my vet has explained all of those things to me!

I read elsewhere to put tabasco on their poop to teach them not to eat it- for hard cases. This seams mean... will it hurt a chi? Mine is 3 mos old and every time he goes in his play pen he poops and eats it before i notice what he is doing.

The Reason your dog, more or less, eats her poop is beause it is simply delicious. It's a completley narural thing for dogs and humans alike to crave feces, it's yummy! I know I eat poop everytime I get a chance. Ancient civilizations dating back to 1000 B.C. beleived that eating poop was a cleansing method and that the only way to wash your soul clean was to wat poo poo. So you see your dog's eating habits are admirable...she deserveres a treat...I recomend spoiling her with a little poop from the dinner table...Good Luck

Whoever said to tap your puppy on the bottom is a moron.  Never ever ever hit your puppy.  Puppies learn from praise not violence.  You need to make sure to remove all the feces from your puppies area as soon as she has used the potty.  If your puppy eats poop it's your fault for giving her the chance to.  Also, make sure she has a well balanced diet.  There are products out there that are meant to make the poop taste bad to her, also

I have an 8 year old Yorkie who has been eating his poop (off and on) since he was a puppy.  It's totally disgusting and he looks really guilty when he does it (about 2 times a week).  My vet said it's a vitamin deficiency, I've tried everything!  He's paper trained, he's real little, I think it has something to do with not wanting to "soil" the house.  My other dog goes outside and has NEVER eaten his poop.

It is normal for Dogs to eat poop.
Because in the wild wolfs would not waste a thing. So they would eat it all, including what ever is in the bows.
