Can two different people have the same last 4 digit number.

Can two different people have the same last 4 digit number.

I believe they can, but they would be issued by different states.  The first three digits of the SSN designate the state in which it was issued.  States have several of these prefixes.  The last 4 digits are unique for each of the prefixes, but you could have a fairly large number of SSNs with the last 4 digits the same.

Considering that there are nearly 300 million people in the United States, and most of them have a Social Security number, I'd have to say that, yes, 2 people could have the same last 4 digits. Think about it!
