Jack Russells were bred to go into the ground after the fox when the foxhounds had run it "to ground".  In between hunt times, they exterminated rodents.  They are excellent at killing, rats, possums, ground hogs, rabbits, cats and anything that has fur and can run.  They can't always distinguish what a rodent is exactly.  I have one dog that is obsessed with birds.  They can be a challenge, but they are fun dogs.

Our Jack Russell terrior has an obsession for squirrels and big Black Crows.  He "clears" our 1 acre property of the squirrels, birds, and all things "furred" every time he steps outside.  He is such a character, he "grins" (bares his canine tooth a bit) at the whole family.  We love him and hope you have fun with yours.
