I am having problems with my spdif connection to a creative...

I am having problems with my spdif connection to a creative audigy input from my effects processor..it used to work but i figures it may be the cable so i bought a cable for radio shack. My old cable said it was an spdif cable but the new one is a pcm digital audio cable.  It looks like the old one but I'm not sure.  Is PCm digital audio the same as spdif?

my ? is that i am having some problems with programs that i log in and out of a good bit and that after doing so i can not log back in to my yahoo messenger  or the program till after i reboot several times or wait 5 to 6 hours can anyone out there help me with this plz.....its not getting any better but worse its weird i cant log in my msn but cant log in anything else anyways thanks for your time and please if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it thank you
