well, i dont get in fights, but if someone wants to be an asshole to me or whatever, i could maybe try to lay down the law, but i dont think itd do anygood. i dont think adding things to the origional idea is too great of a thing to do.

Look, I don't think pacifism is a bad thing, but if you're sXe, then you have to stand up for what you believe in, and think for yourself. You can't avoid violence all the time if someone is threatening you, and if they insult for what YOU ARE, stand up for yourself, don't just back away.

The only guidelines sxe had originally were no drugs/drinking/smoking/promiscuity.  Everything else was added by people who wanted to take the basic idea and commit themselves to even more.  Lots of sxe-ers are also vegetarian/vegan or have given up caffeine because they feel that helps them better themselves.  I think pacifism is a good addition to an sxe-ers repertoire of commitments, but it isn't for everyone.  We can't just abridge the straight edge doctrine like it's the U.S. Constitution, otherwise before you know it we'll be banning gay marriage and such.  Sxe is and should remain a very all-encompassing group for anyone who refuses to drink, smoke, and have sex for recreational purposes.

What are you gonna do in the pit without violence at all? I guess you can be pacifist, But restricting yourself from defending yourself might be against the true meaning of Straight edge, to make yourself better. I dunno. Later

Indeed SxE is about bettering yourself. Don't lose the Big picture of bettering yourself. You can be a pacifist all you want but that takes some of the experience out of the pit, and anyways, defending yourself is always a good thing, using your brain is even better but being able to defend yourself if all else fails is the best thing in the universe. Like He-man.

you could take violence out for like just a random fights on the street...but when it comes down to the meaning of hardcore there is the blunt violent side so violence should be ruled out for everyday life but not for the pit...

Now this is one part of sXe that i can see never really taking off. One reason, Militant sXe'ers Being edge is one thing, but pushing it on others, thats not edge to me. To me, being edge is your choice and your choice alone. I know plenty of people who claim "Drug Free" and not edge, they don't want anything to do with these people. Militant Edge is something that has taken a positive idea and turned it into a negative one. People sell out because of what they see militants doing to people in pits. But what makes it worst is someone saying that their militant and then you seeing them not having the courage to face someone and say it to their face. sXe is awesome, don't get me wrong, but somethings should just be forgotten about.

Violence is unesscessary. Weather or not you are disrespected, violence solves nothing, it only perpetuatues a bad image. If you want to be violent, box, but never turn on somebody who dosnet' stand for your beleifes, no matter how they disrepsect you. Doing so makes you no better than them, and no better than the KKK or the Nazi party.

a lot of people think sXe started because of Minor Threat, but sXe already existed before that, sXe used to be a part of the Hare Krishna movement, a non violent movement.

Irespect your veiw of pacifism, but I think that the morals you apparently have if your sxe are worth fighting for. You really think that at the end of the day your pacifism has a better impact then if you were to stop some scum from dealin out date rape drugs? I personally would rather sacrifice my "pacifism" then sacrifice the mind and body of some defensless girl. Apply that to a lot of situations, Im not sayin fight fight fight, but if some kid thinks its ok to deal in your community, then its good to try and stop that, to cut that out of your community, cause whats more important, your pacifism, or your neighbors kids being addicted to heroin cause nobody wanted to stand up for the cause. Idk, just a thought.

sXe is about bettering yourself.  Is doing illegal crap making yourself a better person?  Is getting yourself caught in jail making yourself a better person? I can understand getting in fights for people doing stupid sh** to you, but I honestly think fighting them would be just stooping down to their level unless it's completely self-defense.  If you're democrat and you got into a heated argument about what you believed in with a republican, would you go as far as fighting them?  If you try to force your ideas or beliefs on someone, it's just going to make them defy you more.  Just smile and walk away.

I am a pacifist and always will be one. To some people, fighting back is an act of honor and pride. To me, when I can center my mind and find peace and just say no to fighting, I have already won back my honor.

Be a pacifst, but dont say it has anything to do with straight edge. When it comes down to it, that doesnt matter. You are either peaceful or not. This issue has nothing to do with edge.
