i have my nose pierced 4 times and have always used studs during the healing process. the only problem you are going to have is a slightly higher risk of infection. but keeping it clean and not touching it should prevent that.

I pierced my own nose two weeks ago and i just pushed a regular earing in my nose and everything is going great. i take it out for school and after school it goes in without any trouble. Regular studs work great.

I know that when I pierced my nose, it hurt like hell.  I had a diamond "stud" put in and it worked great.  I took it out, not because it was infected, but because I was afraid of the hole it may leave later.  I have pierced my eyebrow on several occasions and it has left a terrible scar.  I know that no one else notices it, but I do.  I think that if you have a piercing, it should be unique.  After all, that's why we all say that we're doing it.  Put what ever you feel comfy with in there.  Just don't go sticking sticks or anything in there. LOL!!!!

I got my nose pierced and initially, there was a nose screw put in, however, in between switching nose rings, I used a stud, just to keep the area open.  They work okay but you have a few things to think about...most ear studs are going to be a little shorter in length than nose studs which might make a difference.  I think that if you keep the area clean and don't mess with it too much, it could be okay.  Messing with the piercing too much could cause a keloid to develop or an infection.  It really is a matter of comfort and doing everything possible to avoid infection.

I think it's fine to put an ordinary stud in your nose piercing.'I've had my nose pierced for about a month(not very long) and I'm only 12.I recently decided to take out my nose screw and change it for a stud,it worked perfectly!By the way,if someone wants to pierce their nose themselves,it's up to them,at least they had the bravery to do it!

My friend pierced my nose with and ear gun and it didn't hurt at all the next day I put a stud in it and it went right in with no problem the nite of the third day I took it out and the nite of the fourth day I put it back in with no problem...so it is possible to leave it out all day and then put it back in....

okay...so I got my nose pierced today but i dont know if I got the right nose ring. I got the stud kind and everywhere I go on the internet they have those ones that loop. Which one is better and how do you put the ones that loop on? Oh, and as for the stud... since it goes right in, can't it fall out easier?

You guys shouldn't be piercing yourselves or wearing earrings in your nose. You should be pierced professionally with a nose screw or a CBR and not take it out until the healing process is over. In a few months I bet you will regret your decisions when you begin to grow keloids around your hole. Self piercing isn't an act of bravery. It's stupidity. And if you are doing it because you are too young to get it done...then you are too young to get it done. Wait until you are legally old enough and mature enough to decide to put holes in your body. I'm 19 and just got my nose pierced and survived the wait. You can too.

To Amber027: I just had mine pierced professionally two days ago and I have a nose screw (stud). It cost $30 but it was worth it -- the guy knew what he was doing, he used a needle and not an eargun, and it didn't hurt any more than getting an earlobe pierced. This sounds a little gross, but the nose screw stays in place because they bend the end at a 45 degree angle so it lies flat along the inside of your nose. They leave it loose in case there's any swelling, but after a week or two you go back and they tighten it. You do need to be careful not to catch it on a towel or anything when it's still loose, but otherwise you can wash your face normally. Just be sure to use whatever cleaning solution they give you (I got H2Ocean), and to clean it as often as they tell you.

I got my nose pierced about 3-4 months ago, with a needle. And about 4 weeks later i started getting a bump right above the piercing. Then about 2 days later it started going down. And then like 2 weeks later the same thing started to happen- i got a lump on top of my piercing. It was absolutley disgusting, but...it looked like a huge zit, full of like puss...it was gross. But i refused to take it out. And it's still in. But it hasn't been doing that anymore (it's been like 4 weeks). Do you think those lumps were just a way of letting it heal? That sounds stupid, i know...but it's been good for a while now.

Yet regardless

without them ...
it matters not.
Because once in your life,
whatever they were to the world
they become everything to you.
When you look them in the eyes,
traveling to
the depths of their souls
and
you say a million things
without trace of a sound,
you know that your own life
is inevitable consumed

We love them for a million reasons,
No paper would do it justice.
It is a thing not of the mind
but of the heart.
A feeling.
Only felt.

I have the same problem. I got mine done a month ago with a gun and a stud, and STILL, I have this huge red, pimple looking think on my nose. The stud keeps coming out. I can't get the back in it. I bought a smaller diamond and the end is to short to go all the way through. I just bought a nostril screw too, and I can't get it in!!! I am so frustrated at this point. Today I am going back to the place I got it done and I am going to ask them to look at it and help me switch the piercing. It still hurts so much too, so I hope it's not infected. I guess we'll see....UGH!

About 3 1/2 weeks ago I got my nose pierced and the guy who did it put in a nose screw. My 21 mth old niece threw a towel at me and it got caught on the ring, surprise, surprise when she jerked the towel away from my face nose screw and all. It bled a bit but over all its fine, although I cant get the nose screw back in. How the heck can I do that? I am keeping a plastic nose ring in my nose in the meantime. But I dont know how to get the nose screw back in and I need it in because the hole will close up if I dont get it back in. HELP PLEASE!

Hey guys! Ok, this month I have had both my tongue and nipples done. After talking with my piercer at the Piercing Experience (www.piercing.org - they ONLY do piercing NOT tattoos!!!), the nose process seems pretty simple. The professionals pierce from the inside of the nose outwards- this reduces the risk of stabbing someone. I am really not sure ho easy that is going to be for me to do. Although I like them piercing me :) I am going to try this one myself. A couple of things to know, for those of you who are trying this at home: Clean it aseptically first (preferably alcohol), then DO NOT Turn it or touch it. I am using a barbell I bought at walmart. Everything I hear about screws is bad, and I think an earring is a bad idea as well.

I will let ya'llknow how it goes :)
For the kids: If your parents are against it, then there is nothing that you can do to persuade them. You know your parents better than anyone else, there is not going to be a "trick" to getting them to let you pierce it. Most children that have their bodies pierced are only pierced because their parents aren't very concerned about them (them being the children). Not to say that they don't care, but that they probably aren't the best parents in the world. Which of course you are jealous of these kids that are pierced, but your stubborn parents really do have your best interest at heart.

By the way, I am going to use a needle. The professional use a needle, so that is what I will use. The "gun" is made for ears, just as a "clamp" is made for nipples (not the tongue).

hey, i got my nose pierced in january. here's some info to answer your questions. the needle is better for piercing. you may get a bump around your piercing, you should maybe go ask the piercer about it, it can be from your ring rubbing against it wrong, not cleaning it right, the ring being moved around to much, and for females it can happen because of changes in hormones due to pms, lucky us! they put a screw in when they did it. it worked well for cleaning and healing, but it twisted around sometimes and you could see it inside my nose. the problem with a stud is that the post is skinnier and then there is a ball at the end. the skin can heal around the post and then it can be difficult to get the ring out because you have to try to fit the ball through. i decided the hole was healed all of the way so i took the screw out, but had no clue how to get it in, so i left it out all night. in the morning i stuck an earring through it to make sure the hole was still there and then went to the mall and got a few studs. they go in fine, i'mgoing to try changing it about every week so it hopefully won't close over. when i go back to school, i'llprobably go to the piercing place and have them show me how to get the screws in. i have one of those bumps on my nose, i'mhoping that putting the stud in will help it go away, if not, then i'mgoing to take the piercing out for good.i don't want to have a permanent bump on my nose. but that's all i have for you right now. let me know if you need more info.

hey, i don't know why they had to use a hoop. they used a screw for me. just ask before you get it pierced, maybe? i don't think they numbed mine. it didn't hurt bad though. the place i went to was super clean and used a needle. i think they punch a small amount of the skin out where the piercing is going to go so that it doesn't grow around it, or something? then they just slid the ring through somehow. it didn't hurt bad, my eyes just watered when the needle was in there and i was waiting for the ring to be put in. i'min Michigan, so i don't know where you can go in north Carolina, but just ask around and look in a phone book. make sure the place is clean and has a good rep. you're piercing your face, i'mguessing you really doing want something to be messed up on there :) if you have anymore questions, i'llbe glad to answer them, if i can. i have my belly button pierced too if you need any info on that

I'm 15 and I just got my nose pierced about a month ago, and I got a stud,( I also bought a screw but I can't get that one in) my nose ring is shaped like an "L". They don't numb your nose or anything and it makes your eyes water like crazy! They 1st clean your nose(the side that u want pierced it doesn't matter what side u get it on) inside and out then the take a hallow needle that is about 3 1/2 inches long and pierce your nose. They pull the needle out through the bottom of ur nose and they put the stud in (I'm not sure how they do that I'm a whimp and I had my eyes closed)and then they take a Q-tip and clean the blood off with some kind of antiseptic stuff and thats all! Ur supposed to clean ur nose with salt water but I didn't do that everyday like I was supposed to and it got a big pimple like bump on the inside. I called the place where I got it pierced and thay said to clean it with salt water like I was origanally supposed to do and try to pop it like a pimple to get the puss and blood out and she also said it would go away in about a week but to clean it every night and not to mess with it. (That may have been another reason why I got the bump b/c I played with mine everyday!)Mine tok a while to feel better for about 3 weeks it was still red and sore around the hole but I kept taking it out and putting a clear plug in for school so that may have been the reason for the long redness. Just be sure to get it done at a good place where they have a GOOD rep. and make sure they are CLEAN!!!! I got mine done at Southern Tatoo and Piercings its in Louisiana!!! But good luck!!!

ive done A LOT of research for nostril piercings, im plannin on gettin mine done within a couple weeks... but anyways, the best to do is this.. first, pierce it with a needle, guns cannot be sterilized cuz the sterilization machine will melt them, so u have a lot more risk of infections... second, get either a ring or the screw (a stud with a twisted bottom).. the stud will also increase the risk of infection and can also go into ur nose due to the length of the stud and the amount of swelling ur nose will be doin... hope this helps some of u

I'm 16 and I got my nose pierced about 4 months ago, and it didn't hurt at all. Nose piercings are supposed to heal the fastest of any piercing.(belly buttons are the worst)Anyways, when you first get it done it is pretty common for them to put a screw ring in. For those wondering why they couldn't get a screw one in when they changed it...you might want to check the gauge of your ring...Personally, I think that the screws work the best because you can bend them to fit your nose type.

to phoenixgothe, you ring is never going to heal if you keep ripping it out morning and night. that's just opening the wound over and over again. that's why it hurts and it's probably infected if it hurts that bad. and it's probably going to create major scarring. i'dlet it close and wait to go to a real piercer. if you're not going to take it out, start cleaning it with CLEAR softsoap twice a day and get sea salt, not regular salt and dissolve a teaspoon of it in a cup of hot/warm water and put your nose in the cup and blow bubbles in it for 10  minutes. you can also do the same water/salt mixture and do a heat compress, to do that, dip paper towel in the water/salt and then hold the paper towel on the piercing. these will help healing, but you're ripping it out all the time, so it's going to be awful and probably not heal well at all. best if you just take it out and let it heal because it's dumb of you to pierce it like that especially when you don't know what you're doing it seems like. and i pray that you sterilized the needle that you use and used a different one than your friend used.

to *haylie* i have both done and it's about the same pain amount, i think. maybe a tiny more for my nose while the needle was in it. but neither was much pain, just enough to  make my eyes water, i think.

to bethy, ask the piercer if they have hoops you can have put in. i'msure they do.

Okay, a few people have asked this question, and it has gone unanswered.  Hopefully someone will finally answer it... How are you supposed to get the screw back in?  I recently got a job where facial piercings were against the dress code, so I got a retainer.  Friday night I was going out, so I wanted to put my screw back in.  I was in my bathroom for at least 30 minutes trying to get it back in, and it just wasn't happening.  Does anyone here at all know how to get it back in?

OK. I got my nose piercing done about 2 weeks ago...it didnt really hurt that much, he put a hoop in it cuz he said it was easier to clean during healing time and that i could change it to a stud in 2-3 weeks. Well, it was doing ok for the first week or so, a little tender to the touch but thats expected right? I mean you jus put a hole in your nose. Anyways, lately there's been this bump right above the piercing that looks kind like a pimple or something i dunno and it was hurting pretty bad for a while and i was kinda upset because i had been real good about cleaning it with soap and the sea salt water soak. It's hurting a little less now even though it was just horrible the other day. I guess what i'mwondering is if this is normal during healing or not. Also, i have no idea how im sposed to put the nose screw in once it finally does heal...hopefully? lol if anyone can help me out i'dreally appreciate it. Thanks.

I really want to get my nose peirced, my mom gave it the okay... but does it leave a scar ? Is there a clear stud or something i can get for my work? I would think that it would be a better idea to get my nose done at a peircing shop... instead of Claires. They would know what they're doing. Is it better to have it peirced w/ a needle or a gun?  Help!!

Hey, I got my nose pierced on the right side about three weeks ago.Mine was done with a needle and I picked out a nostril screw to be put in. I went back two days ago for a check up and everythings good. It hurt so freaking bad when they were trying to put my screw back in, worse then when I got it pierced. I had boughten a new nose screw and tried to put in on the way home but I couldnt get it in! Its like impossible! I have decided to try to use a nose stud instead but I dont know considering what one of the girls said about it closing up around the bar, I dont  want that to happen. But other then the screw thing everything has been fine and I never got a little bump on mine, but my friend Monica did, so she took hers out. Bye~*~

I got  my nose pierced a month ago, and the little diamond fell out, so I went to buy a new one, but I wasn't paying attention and bought  a stud with a ball on the end which was bigger then what i initially had. so I put it in (painfully) and it tore some layer of skin from inside the hole. I took it out at the end of the day and stuck the original back in, but the hole is bigger now. what I want to know is will the hole heal to appropriate size again? or should I let it heal completely and get it pierced again?

I had my nose pierced in April and it did hurt.  Not like having natural child birth or tattoo hurt.  More like getting a shot, eye watering too.  It was done with an 18 gauge needle from the outside in.  A wooden tounge depressor was used to stop the needle.  The gentleman used a surgical stainless steel nose screw.

For those of you who want to get pierced and are under 18 most places that tattoo *and* pierce won't let a minor in.  (I'm 27 btw.)

I was also told that using a regular earring is a bad idea as it's not long enough and one side could close.  Keep the stud (they do make them they are called nose bones.  HotTopic.com sells them still I believe) or screw in during the healing process.

Research your chosen piercer.  Ask cost and check the place out.  If you get creepy vibes.... don't go there.  (Same goes for tattoos!)  I was comfortable going to the place for piercing but I wouldn't go for a tattoo.

Now to the young one who's mom will but dad won't... don't pit them against each other.  It will make your life, and theirs, hell, even if they don't live with each other anymore.  Because of you they need to maintain contact!  Wait until you are old enough to make the decision yourself without worrying what either of them will say.

I'm having a similar problem... I got my nose pierced with the screw about 3 months ago. It hasn't given me any problems at all, and I love it. But... I have a career fair to go to the next two days & can't wear it. So, I decided to practice taking it in and out today. I know about 5 people who have them, and they all said it's easy to take in and out. I say bullcrap. It only took about 10 minutes to get it out, but i'vebeen working on getting back in off and on for about 4 hours. At this point, I've given up. I'm keeping an earring stud in there until tuesday when I'm done career-fairing & then I'll go to a shop to have them do it. Unless of course someone else has any suggestions :).

It wasn't too much help to me, but I did find this web forum that might help someone else:

Well last week i got my nose pierced and they used a gun, i don't really see a problem with the gun as it can be cleaned, and everywhere in the UK uses it for ears and there hasn't been a blood borne diseases epidemic yet :) Itdoesn't hurt that much, like having your ears done but a bit more painful! I'm going back today though to get them to change my stud to a smaller one - easier to hide at school!!

P.s How the hell can that chain letter have been going since 1887 a)  they didn't have shampoo -  or it certainly wasn't called that and b) They didn't have the Internet!!!

My name is Tom and im 16. I got my nose pierced 8 weeks ago and has only just healed. At the beggining of every week i put in a clear stud so it cant be seen at skewl and on the weekend i change it to a bigger one. I had a small surgical steel black one which lookes like a blackhead but i found the steel gave me an irritaion and made my nose swell up. My mum bought me a crystal one for my bday and has a screw at the end of it like a bottle opener! I cant get it in as i am used to the basic ones with a 90degree bend in it! My email is thorbie951@hotmail.com and it would be great if someone could tell me how to get it in. THANKS

I'm all for piercing your own Nose.  I did it with a regular, somewhat large-gauge sewing needle, and it's turned out fine... I just cleaned it with the solution I got for my ear piercings (one of which I've done myself, as well).  I'm totally in love with it.  It's helped me overcome my hatred of my nose (I used to think it was horribly big), now I like it! :)

I'm really surprised that in this day and age with all the blood-transmitted diseases out there that people are still getting pierced with the gun (which cannot be sterilized completely, causes tissue trauma, and is used by people with only a few weeks training and not several years) or *shiver* doing it themselves.

PLEASE, before you get your nose pierced, just talk to someone who is a professional piercer, or even your doctor, about what you plan on doing. Yes, going to a piercing salon and getting it done professionally with an autoclave-sterilized needle and surgical quality nose jewelry is more expensive than doing it at home or getting the girl at a local earring store to do it, but it's worth it.

When properly done, you have essentially zero chance of initial infection. Make sure you look at the equipment prior to the piercing and ensure it is in little sealed bags because that means the tools have been sterilized in an autoclave. Also make sure the piercer washes his/her hands and puts on a fresh pair of surgical gloves before touching ANYTHING.

Once you are satisfied you're getting a sterile piercing, they will probably ask where you want it to go. If they make a dot that is not EXACTLY where you want, tell them. A piercing should go where you want it and don't be afraid to say you want it just a little different. Remember, it's your money. The pen used for marking your piercing should be disposable. Would you want a pen that had touched someone else's nose (or tongue or worse?) touching yours after all the effort of sterilization? You may even want to bring your own.

Pain-wise, many people say it is a relatively pain-free experience. Mine, personally, I thought was sort of painful. There is an initial pinching feeling when the needle goes in, which was pretty minimal for me but the actual jewelry going in was fairly painful. Luckily it was over quickly with almost no bleeding and no swelling. There are two techniques. Some piercers use a clamp around the area to be pierced to hold the skin tight. Others, like the one who did my nose, use something that looks like a metal sleeve. It fits inside the nostril and not only protects the inside of your nose from an accidental prick, but also catches the needle when it is pushed through.

Remember to eat something about an hour before you go to get pierced, even if it's just a chocolate bar. Your immune system reacts instantly to the foreign object in your nose and, combined with the anticipation (or fear) of the piercing experience, many people get light headed or dizzy. Eating something before, and then again after, to keep blood sugar levels up will help reduce this.

After you have your piercing it is a big temptation to touch it. Don't. Keep your hands off it as much as you possibly can. Also, try not to ever touch it unless you have first washed your hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap. A helpful tip for cleaning is to utilize Q-tips. After washing your hands, dip the cotton end of a Q-tip into your cleaning solution (Anti-bacterial soap diluted with water, Bactine, EarCare, or sea-salt soak). Take your finger tips and shape the Q-tip's end into a flattened or pointed shape to get into any crevices around your jewelry.

You'll want to clean your piercing 3 times a day for the first month and twice a day for the next month. After that you will want to be cleaning at least every day until 6 months or more have passed because although you can change your jewelry after 6-8 weeks, your piercing isn't totally healed until about 6 months when the tissue in the piercing settles and turns almost white.

If you have any troubles with your piercing, feel free to go back and ask your piercer, or call. After-care help is part of the service provided and all professional piercers want you to have the best experience possible and so are more than willing to offer advice. Also, you may want to go see your piercer the first time you change your jewelry. They can do it with minimal trauma to your new and still healing piercing, also they can show you how to do it properly yourself. If you use a nostril screw, they can also size and shape it appropriately for you.

Good luck and happy (and safe) piercing!!

I want to get my nose pierced, but i wasn't going to get it done professionally.  I was going to do it myself.  Is it really stupid doing it yourself?  How do you do it yourself?  Do you need to buy anything special?  i was just going to push an earring through.  What are the steps  to self piercing your nose?  I really want it  done, but i don't want to spend all the money, and effort getting it done professionally.  My sister has her nose pierced, but she did it professionally, and everything was fine, and she did some of her piercings by herself, and i have watched her many times, so i know how to do it, but is it really unsafe?  i have heard that your nose and your brain share that same blood, so if you get a bad nose piercing, and it gets infected, then you can get a brain infection too!  i want to do it, and I'm not scared about the pain or anything, i am just worried about infection, and effects of it all.  I need an answer soon, so write back asap!!  Thanks a lot!!  Avery!

I just got my nose peirced yesterday. All you people who say it does not hurt, well mine hurt sooooo badly. However, I do have a low tolerence for pain. Mine was pierced with a needle at the best place in Tucson. I recomend cleaning it with bactine. That was what Frog (my piercer) told me to use and swears by (he has several piercings himself). Plus, the bactine has a nice aroma to it (important since you are sticking it up your nose). I was recommended to not use any normal facial cleanser but just regular dial soap. Frog told me to be very very careful. So, I am. I still think it was one of the most painful things I have ever done to myself, but now that the pain is gone, I would say it was worth it. I nearly broke my friend's hand as the needle went through. It hurt sooo much! I don't want to scare anyone away, but I was very dismayed to find out all the people who said it had been painless had lied to me, lol. They admitted their lie after I had gotten it done! So, FYI, it hurts, but it is worth it.

Hey, I am getting my nose pierced in a few days. I want to know is it true that it will heal in 6 weeks??? I heard 6 to 12 months!!! But I dont know which one is true I guess I will find out in a few days.  I am really nervous I dont want to get a bump lik evryone is talkign about. I know that if i clean it and dont touch it with unwashed hands I shudnt.  SO u r to clean it with antibacterial soap and sea salt right? That is what I cleaned my bellybutton ring with but it still got infected.I think it gto infected cuz I always touched it with unwashed hands and it gets infected really easily.  I am going to Hemp 2000 to get my nose pierced so anyone who lives in Canada Alberta around Lloydminister go ther.  It is the best!!! My boyfriend got hsi tounge pierced ther and my frend got her bellybutton pierced ther. Neither one of them had any trouble and hte ppl are really nice.  I got to go in the back and watch my boyfriend get hsi tounge pierced.  It was so cool and she included me in everything and took 20 minutes to talk to me and help me out with my bellybutton ring that wudnt stop bleeding becuz I hit it playing sports.  they are really nice ppl she even gave me some free cleaner that helps stop bleeding.  But I am still nervous about my nose. Does it hurt?  How long does it take to heal? What is a nose screw? Whats the difference between a screw and a stud?

To all the people who are questioning how to get the screw in the only suggestion I can make is to put your thumb on the inside of your nose to guide along the end of the screw....that is what worked for mine....I also made sure that the screw was wet so it slid in a little bit easier....

For everyone concerned with pain....i just got my nose pierced a month ago and I think that what it is, is a quick pain...it hurts but so fast that you don't have a clue what is going on until its over....I don't regret it at all...

I had my nose pierced for the 3rd time 3 months ago.  I took out my stud the last time because after 6 months it still wasn't healed up.  I was using antibiotic ointment, which I found out was a big No-No.  Do not use any ointment.  This new piercing is always touch and go.  At times it is fine and at times it looks infected.  I am wondering if my body just can't handle it.  I went to a professional piercer all three time.  The first two time was with the same person and I don't think she was very good.  The third time I went somewhere different and they gave me good advice on how to keep it clean.  Use salt water!  And sometimes antibacterial soap.  I also use the band-aid brand foaming antibacterial wound wash.  I also found that if I take a little spot band aid, cut two parallel edges off to make it like a real band aid and wear it while I sleep keeps me from bumping it at night.  This keeps down the infection and irritation.
As for if getting pierced hurts or not, getting my eyebrows waxed hurts worse.  A good piercer is quick, there aren't a lot of nerve ending in the nose.  But there are a few veins and you could bleed.  If you hit a vessel, be sure to be extra vigilant on keeping it clean because infection could be disastrous.

I just pierced my nose about 3 days ago with a kit that i bought... it came with a gun (like an ear one kinda) and a sterilized contianter that had the stud in it... I followed the directions closely and it looks great!!! my best friend did hers too... BUT... it was pierced with a stud and mine fell out like the 2nd day and her's did the 3rd, we had to put screws in... I'll tell ya how i got mine in... I actually had to kinda straighten the part that's like an n once that was in, i kinda just twisted it a little, just like a screw and it went in... once it was in, i just bent the n part back to shape... works great!!! much better than a stud.

Reinsertion of nose screws to be done with clean hands and a mirror.

Put the curled bit flat on your nose adjacent to the piercing with the non-jeweled end of it facing towards the hole. Push the stud through the hole until that part of the curve is in, then you will have to corkscrew the rest of the screw until the entire curl bit is curved inside your nose. If you have left it out for too long getting it through entirely may hurt. Push the rest of the stud (the un-curved) bit thru gently with the end of your finger. If in doubt, go back to the piercer.

Nose piercings definitely do not hurt as much as you would think.  I didn't have a problem, but couldn't leave it alone...nervous type.  After 1 week developed the dreaded "bump" around the piercing site.  Used the spray salt water to help heal.  It's been about a week and it still looks like crap.
Maybe it's just the healing process.  Somebody please let me know how long this takes.  The little stone sits on "top" of the bump.  How disgusting.

Article 3:
The Commandments

1.
Thou shall not squeeze
too hard.
2.
Thou shall not ask for a kiss,
but take one.
3.
Thou shall kiss
at every opportunity.

* Remember *
A peach is a peach
A plum is a plum,
A kiss isn't a kiss
Without some tongue.
So open up your mouth
close your eyes,
and give your tongue
some exercise!!!
Here are a few reasons
why guys like girls:
1.
They will always smell good
even if its just shampoo

2.
The way their heads always
find the right spot on our shoulder

3.
How cute they look when they sleep

4.
The ease in which they fit into our arms

5.
The way they kiss you and
all of a sudden everything
is right in the world

6.
How cute they are when they eat

7.
The way they take hours
to get dressed
but in the end
it makes it all worth while

8.
Because they are always
warm even when its minus 30 outside

9.
The way they look good
no matter what they wear

10.
The way they fish for compliments
even though you both know that you
think she's the most
beautiful thing on this earth

11.
How cute they are when they argue

12.
The way her hand always finds yours

13.
The way they smile

14.
The way you feel
when you see their name
on the call ID
after you just had a big fight

15.
The way she says
"lets not fight anymore"
even though you know that
an hour later....

16.
The way they kiss when
you do something nice for them

17.
The way they kiss you
when you say
"I love you"

18.
Actually ...
just the way they kiss you...

19.
The way they fall into your arms
when they cry

20.
Then the way they apologize
for crying over something that silly

21.
The way they hit you
and expect it to hurt

22.
Then the way they apologize
when it does hurt.
(even though we don't admit it)!

23.
The way they say
"I miss you"

24.
The way you miss them

25.
The way their tears
make you want to
change the world
so that it
doesn't hurt her anymore.....
Yet regardless
if you love them,
hate them,
wish they would die
or
know that you would die
without them ...
it matters not.
Because once in your life,
whatever they were to the world
they become everything to you.
When you look them in the eyes,
traveling to
the depths of their souls
and
you say a million things
without trace of a sound,
you know that your own life
is inevitable consumed
within the rhythmic beatings
of her very heart.
We love them for a million reasons,
No paper would do it justice.
It is a thing not of the mind
but of the heart.
A feeling.
Only felt.

Nose screws are SO HARD TO GET IN! I dont suggest changing your orginal piercing until 3 months later, or else you may disrupt your skin and some "bumps" may occur. I got mine done with a gun (which i suggest you guys NOT to do) adn changed it like 2 weeks later.. I now have the "bump" but it's gone down a lot. Sea Salt soaking is the best!

Hiya, i got my nose pierced yesterday at a local hairdressers. I didnt have it done by a needle, but a ear piercing gun instead, and the woman out an earing stud in, because it has no back on it, today it fell out but i quickly put it back in but didnt have clean hands and the stud fell on the floor and i dint wash it. And after reading all your stories, im a bit worried im gonna get an infection as i was told to keep turning the stud, but i dont wash my hands every time as it is unpratical and i often forget. I think every 1 has a different pain resistance, but i thought it killed!

If your going to pierce your own nose please use a needle. Guns are just bad news. And do it right, buy a piercing needle make sure everything is cleaned ( your hands included!). I see no problem in doing it yourself. Im 25 and have many piercings all done in my home and because I did it right they turned out fine.

Okay, this is for anyone and everyone wondering how the heck to put a nostril screw back in once you take it out.  I had the same question for the longest time and I even asked a professional who was little help.  The main thing he said that helped me was to check to make sure there are no scratches, nicks or anything of that sort on the part of the jewelry going into your nose.  He also told me that if it doesn't seem to want to go in, try unbending it by hand so it's a little straighter and then try to put it in again.

However, using my own experience, research, and trial and error were the best ways to figure this out and now I hope I can help you.  How I got my new nostril screw (a little heart) in was that I used a taper.  I know that they're primarily used for stretching a piercing but if you use the same gauge as your jewelry, they can be used as a way to put your screw in.  Anyway, the end of a taper is concave and the very tip fits perfectly.  They can also be bought for about ten bucks at most body jewelry sites like Painful Pleasures.

Before doing anything with the taper, make sure you wash your hands with hot water and antibacterial soap or you wear rubber gloves.  After you're certain everything is sterile, take the taper and use an antibacterial/warm water mix to coat the first half.  Push the taper through your piercing three-quarters of the way and stop.  Take your nostril screw and stick the tip of it into the concave end of the taper.  When you are certain that it is secure, push on the top of the screw while pulling the taper through the rest of the way.  The screw will actually remain in the concave part of the taper until it is all the way through.

I hope this helps anyone who is still having issues with changing their nostril screws.  Also, my advice from personal experience is that if you cannot get your screw back in yourself, get yourself a captive ball ring or a stud made especially for the nose instead.  Do not use a regular earring stud.  I did and got an ugly purple bump right above the piercing.

I am getting my nose pierced Saturday so like in two days and my friend is doing it for me. I was wondering what I should use and like where I can get the clear plastic nose studs or whatever. Also, should I use a normal needle or large needle? To have my friend pierce it herself for me? Email me at PortkeyToNowhere@yahoo.com for the answers please. Thanks very much!

um first of all.. it depends on your skin.. not everyone gets keloids, and you don't necessarily get a keloid because you pierced yourself... for those of you that think you know, it's just a natural skin reaction... I'vehad a keloid with all of my piercings except my tongue and I've got all my piercings done professionally.. also, it doesn't hurt you to have one.. it will heal the same as someone who doesn't get a keloid.. i have my nose my tongue, my lip, my navel and my ears pierced twice... one piece of advice that I have is if you are a slow healer... try and wait the 6 months to change your jewelry, and get your piercer to do it for you... especially with a navel ring if you swim.. you'll be happy you did it:)

Okay first of all I would like to say DO NOT USE A Earring to wear in your nose.... you don't wear a belly ring in your ear or tongue... there are REASONS why they make special jewelry for noses only. One reason is because of the legnth of the post on earrings are usually too short and it can cause your skin to grow over it without you knowing it.

secondly, most earrings are not made out of good quality metals. even Sterling Silver in a new piercing will tarnish and unless you want an ugly gray dot tattooed on your nose FOREVER, stick with the professional grade surgical steel, titanium or niobium jewelry until your piercing is COMPLETELY healed.

Thirdly, the best shape jewelry is a screw or a hoop, however hoops can get caught in your sleep and the can pull and hurt and well I just don't like the look of them personally. So that leaves the screw... I've read so many posts on here about having trouble with putting the screw in. I have your salvation! Directions on how to put a screw in!!! Thanks to an e-bay auctioneer (http://stores.ebay.com/Nose-Gems/Nose-Screw-Tips-For-Newbies.html) here it is pasted for ya...:

Nose Screw Tips For Newcomers!

First of all......Welcome to the Wonderful World Of "Nose Gems" ! :o)

...allot of Newly Pierced People need just a little Guidance...I have designed this Page just for you!...If you've never Worn a "Screw Type" Do not Fear! These are the Best Designed Nose Screws Around....Once you get the "Hang of it" You'll never Go Back to the "Bones" Or Uncomfortable Studs.....Give it a try!

First....be sure to Cleanse The screw with gentle anti-bacterial Soap...NO Alcohol...Ever!

Then: Put a dab of a good antibacterial ointment Such as Neosporin...On the End of the "U" Curve

(this just provides a good Slide into the nose...Lubrication makes it much easier!)

Put the tip of the "U" into the piercing and gently push it through the hole...feel inside with another finger until you can feel the Tip of it Coming through...Then ...you must give a firm twist to get the rest of the "U" curve through the hole....once the curve is through ....the second bend just slides into place like a standard earring does....The "U" curve is there to provide more comfort and to ensure the Screw will not fall out!

If you have a really hard time getting it in...don't get upset! Take your time and you can take a little bit of the "U" out to make it wider with a regular pair of household pliers...I've not had too many people who have had to do this but, I have had a couple who I told to do this and they were so happy because they just needed to widen the "U" just a bit and it slid right in! Just take some pliers and Hold onto the Screw at the Base (Just under the gemstone setting) and take another pair of pliers and Gently pull the "U" curve out a little bit to make it wider....Then it should slide in a bit easier!

I hope this helps you ....Just remember it's a little tricky..." just Twist! ".....but, once you get it ..you won't have any trouble inserting them....

The screw question finally answered:
Okay people it's really not that hard to get it in...i'm going to use the term "ring" for the screw
1st put it in and make sure the stud part is to the right(looking in the mirror) of the piercing.
2nd-now you have to turn the ring towards the bridge of your nose and the second part of the screw should go in
last-now just push it down and it's in...it's really hard to explain you would probably have to see it being done to understand what i mean...it took me a really long time to learn even after the first time i got it in but now it's really simple...you just have to mess around with it a little while even if it hurts because mine hurt like a bia learning how to do it. I'm all around happy with my piercing but i still have the bump and i didn't know that it even existed with other people until i got on the internet and now I'mtying to find out how to get rid of it.
I think I'mgoing to the piercing place tomorrow to get some info about it. Good luck all you people with screws!

I just pierced my own nose.... I have no infection or redness at all just a little sore and swelled from the gun I used.... I notice alot of you are doing different things and this is cool... I have now 4 body piercings and I have a little advice... first if you are getting your tongue, eyebrow, nipples, clit, or penis done get it done by a clean and safe professional... doing those yourself could lead to major issues down the line... for instance, doing your own eyebrow can lead to total parylization of your face since there is a major nerve over both eyebrows that control all the muscles on either side your face... as well there are nerves in the nipples and other private areas that could permanently cause loss of sexual function if done wrong.... and at so young of an age you don't want to wake up one day and regret your choices.... getting your nose done , your ears and even your lip can all be done on your own but dont be stupid and use a plain old needle, for your nose and ears use a throw away gun... you can get one at walmart that is for use on babies... what is nice about those is that it uses a regular stud but the back is a soft rubber and it will protect the inside of your nose from the sharp point but be sure to get the infant piercing kit ... cost is about 10 bucks... be sure to clean your nose everyday with either salt water or peroxide... I prefer peroxide cause it doesn't hurt as much to use and it disinfects better than the salt water ever will....also make sure you turn it everyday at least 2 or 3 times a day when you go to clean it ... this will help to keep the hole from closing too much around the bar and trust me that can really hurt if it does that and you then have to change the bar to a regular nose stud... if you want a loop get it done by a professional.... they use a special hollow needle gaged so that it actually removes a tiny little piece of your nose... sounds gross but true... I reccomend this from experience .... you can cause more infection and do serious damage to your nasal passage if you cut your nose in the wrong place by making a slight error in distance or slipping.... ........................ I guess the best thing I can say is this.... think about anything you are doing to your body , cause this body has to last your whole life and you don't want to regret it later in life......piercing and tattoos are a form of expressing yourself not destroying yourself... have fun with it and remember a tattoo is for life and a piercing can be taken out and heal if you don't like it.... and I know I have 7 tats and 4 piercings.... have fun and be safe everyone :-)

I got my nose peirced about 6weeks ago with a gun. I was told by the piercer to put the little stud with the little ball in, but I had to much scar tissue on the inside so I bought a longer stud with a bigger ball at the end off it. It ifts good but I cannot get it to heal cause I have to talk it out every day just for a moment and then put it back in or else it gets stuck cause of the big ball at the end. So I tried to put a screw in but there is no way it will go in.The place I got it peirced does not carry screws so I am going to go to a different place and see if they will put a screw in for me if not I am gonna get it repeired with the needle.

i got my nose pierced yesterday after waiting for about 3 years to build up the confidence, after reading a few of the comments on here it would put anyone off! Mine did not hurt at all getting it done, I requested the needle because with the gun you can get a bump or as some people have said a 'lump' on the piercing, thats because of the sudden pressure occuring on that part of the nose. I got my navel pierced with a gun a few years ago and I got a bump, its closed over now because I thought it looked vile. The dude who pierced my nose told me to use salty hot water, but im a bit of a clean freak and dont believe that is as affective as other products. I read alot of articles before I got it pierced and learnt that over cleaning is just as bad as NOT cleaning.

The people on here who have pierced themselves I think are idiots, Okay it saves money but you cant guarentee that it is as safe as getting it done in a parlor.

I love my piercing and Im so glad I got it done, its so much fun! When you flare your nostrals out it has the most pleasing yet freaky feeling!

Well it looks like everyone has the same problem as me.  Getting the screw back in.  I got my nose pierced last september...I had a screw put in.  After a few months I took it out and put in a stud with a little ball on the end. That hurt like hell to get in so I was afraid to take it out.  I finally took it out last week, I had to cut it to get it out.  Now I can get a screw back in so I straightened it and it is just sitting in there.  Any suggestions on what is easier to get in besides the bone ones with the ball.

Hi I got my nose pierced after I had my third baby as a ritual to remember. My piercer said to used plain crushed Bayer aspirin mixed with your saliva into a paste to release the cyst ( the puss filled red bump) and remove the pate after 10 min. use 1/4 teaspoon course sea salt ground and mixed with warm not hot water. I used a Q-tip to wipe around the piercing outside and inside. NEVER use alcohol whoever told you that does not now how to do this right. And ALWAYS go to a professional never do it yourself as your nose has nerve endings that can be permanently damaged. Do not use an earring as those are for you ear, If you cant handle blood then go live in a plastic bubble and do not get it done. As for the kid who's mother says yes and dad says no. who do you live with anyway? The parent you live with should be the one who's rules you follow.
Nose screws are the norm for first timers until 6-8 weeks then whatever you feel like.
If you like the simplicity of a stud with the stay in place screw I suggest you buy an India nose pin screw (like the women in India). as they stay in place with out the hook. Nothing to stick out of your nose and also has a longer life span. Nose crews will bend out of shape easily forcing you to replace the jewelry every 6 months safely. more than that is not recommended.
I personally have been pierced for two years and counting as of January 31st 2003. And I have never removed my nose jewelry. I got my Navel pierced in September of 2004 after My 4th baby was 6 weeks old. I would say my navel was like getting my blood drawn and my nose was like getting kicked in the face. I think having kids prepared me for the pain better than someone crying about their fear of pain (I suggest Do not get pierced if you are really afraid or cant stand blood and can not handle pain small or medium).
Lock at it this way there are more painful piercing like genitalia.
No sex for 3 or 4 months guaranteed.
I think these rules to follow answered questions answer half way or fully and answered questions not asked or answered at all.
Have a good day
P.S under 16 no way, under 18 you pay, not your parents, but get permission first. over 18, hey its your body, you just remember you have to live with it.

I just got my nose pierced about a week ago and it didn't hurt really. It felt like what it did when I got my ear lobe pierced. Getting a bump above where you nose screw sits may be a keloid and it may because you are allergic to something that is in the metal in your nose ring. I know that I am allergic to nickle so I have to be careful with the jewelry that I use. So if you are getting a bump or something don't pop it just try a different type of metal in your nose.

I want to get my nose pierced as well. I have both my ears and Belly button pierced, is the nose as bad?? well which one hurts more?? And for anyone who wants to know why the needle is better, is because your nose is cartilage like the top of your ear, and you can shatter the cartilage with a gun. But yeah

hey, listen, i got mine done with a needle and it hurt less than even getting my earlobes pierced.  i cant speak for getting it done with a gun, but plenty of my friends have piercings and they're all pretty weary of piercing guns since they can mess with your cartilage and all.  i put in one of those "bones" or "pins" that have just enough room to come out the other end of your nose and it felt and looked great....but it fell out (and YES, it does close up, for me at least, in about 20 minutes) and i had to get it re-pierced, and i don't need to tell you how much that sucked 9although it didn't hurt at all).  basically, use a screw, not a bone, clean it with bactine, and try to do it at a pro place (not one of those stands in malls) with a needle, and i promise it didn't hurt me at all.

Ok. For everyone out there that doesn't know what that little "pimpley" thingy is i will tell you. This is going to sound gross but it is a boil! Yes a boil! It happend from the shock that your nose gets from something shoved up in there!
And they best way is the pro way with the needle! Trust me!!!
And I dont care what any one says but you can take it out 20 mins after you get it done!!! And then change it. Ues reg nose rings tho! Not earings! They will infect it!

alrighty, I'm 16 and I got my nose pierced several weeks ago at a professional place, nice clean, good rep, they usually make you get something notarized if you're underage.
It didn't hurt all that bad, and I'm such a wimp. Alot of peoples eyes do water, mine didn't, the guy made me close my eyes, which is a good idea, so you don't move. I didn't bleed either. I didn't get to pick my first piercing, but it was a nice tiny, silver nose screw. Nose screws are great, they stay in well and mine's healing fine. I use that Ocean stuff they reccomend a couple of times a day, and no bad bump, make sure you always use good quality metals, like real silver or surgical steel, the bumps, like when I got my lobes and cartilage, can simply be a result of an allergic reaction. Also, the piercing is 18 gauge (smaller the gauge the bigger the needle/ring). So whenever you get a new ring or screw, screws are awesome by the way, make sure you get the right size, cause if you get one too small, your piercing can heal up and you won't be able to put typical size nose rings in. If noses are like cartilage (the top of your ear) than rings give you an infection easier at first. As for screws, um mine felt out my accident once, it got caught and came out, yes beware blankets and towels, washing your face is fine, but watch for towels. Screws, umm they way to put them back in, alrighty, looking at them, look at the end, slid that in so the ring is lying flat on your nose, one end in and then, it may hurt a little, turn it and slide the rest in.

OMG. I have a few things to say. U people that go on here and ask questions, do u really think people are gonna answer them? I dont think so. And those of u that pierce u noses, well its ur decision...do whatever u want. And most people, when they get their noses pierced, it almost always creates a bump and i know that because i know someone that pierces noses and does tattoos. Oh and for u Sami Z...? U cant just take ur effin nose ring out for 8 hours and put it back. Thats my problem right now. I bought new nose rings and i wanted to change it so i took my nose ring out and tried to put a new one and it wouldnt go in. I didnt even have them out for 15 seconds...and now i have to have it heal and then i am gettin it repierced. Yeah so most of u guys are wrong. And u need to get lifes.

hey, I've had my nose pierced twice, both with a gun and had a straight stud put in straight away and have never seen what all the fuss is about guns and screws?! I think people worry too much, I have never had an infection and enquired in around 20 places before I had it done and none of them had ever considered using a needle to pierce noses, all used guns, and had never had an infected customer.

Anyway, I want to insert an L shaped stud but whenever I reach the 90 degree angle part of the stud I can't seem to get it in because how can you fit a bend in the metal through a little hole?

please help.

Help me out here...
I just got my nose pierced today.  It was done in a really nice clean place, with a needle, and I didn't shed a single tear.  I asked for a screw stud, but I believe it is too long.  I can't get it to fit inside my nose - no matter what position it is in, it stands up from my nostril about a half centimeter, because the screw part is actually hitting my septum on the inside... what can I do?  I don't want to go to work with it like this, but I'm afraid to take it out and change it so soon.  If I leave it like this I'm afraid I will get it caught on something and then I'll really regret getting it done.  I don't want a ring because it would stand out too much.  Do screw studs come in different sizes, and will a piercer replace the stud so soon?

Ok girls....I don't think u get it. Do not pierce your nose yourself. You could hit a nerve. That's not good at all. And your not cool. (lol) Just get it done by a professional you'll be glad you did. I got mine done for 16 bucks. Never use the gun always the needle. Gun piercings are very unstaril. GET A SCREW. ! Screw piercings are way better than any other rings. The piercing itself does not hurt but when they stick the ring in it is a little pain. Anyways the reason I am on here is to find out about this bump thing. I just recently got one and I thinkit is due to irratation. I have messed with it a little bit. So I just want to know how to get the bump to go away! Please help if u know.

i got my nose pierced about a week ago. yes, it hurt no lie. i had to get it pierced twice because my piercer lost the hole. i got no bumps nothing, just the crusties around the nose. i didn't even get the giant blood booger in the nose. he put in a nose screw which is very comfortable, except this morning i woke up and the jewel inside my stud was missing. i desperately need to know how to change a nose screw, because i refuse to walk around like this.

yeah I pierced my nose almost a month ago, note as to why the hell would you do it yourself! I got it professionally and I bled all over my face, so yeah enjoy the experience. If its infected why would you re-pierce it, take it out! When you get it done you receive a page on how to clean it properly which is basically >> dial soap salt water and rubbing alcohol but the worse places to get an infection is the nose and genital areas this basically means u have to go to the hospital immediately. so if you're going to do it yourself by all means I don't understand why you'd do it? if you see a bump and its badly infected take it out! I have nothing against nose screws I have one only problem with that is I have is its not tight enough I don't know if its meant to be that way or not. other then that they seem to be fine and it doesn't fall out. I doubt it would really scar it depends on persons skin and how they heal. Some people may but again that depends, generally I think the only really noted scaring from piercing is the eyebrow and that almost always leaves one generally because the hair around it doesn't grow back very well if not at all (the bald spotline across the eyebrow). If a parents lets you peirce it, it does not mean their good or bad parents that has nothing to do with it, all people raise their children different and by all means you have no say as to how someone raises someone, I know your trying to make the girl feel better but don't criticize someone for it you don't personally know the people you insulted so why would you comment on them. sounds to me you have somethin agenst those "kids who have it done" maybe some childhood inconvenience towards you so don't let you're personal negative grudges influence other peoples judgment

SO I got my nose pierced 6 weeks ago and I got it done professionally. The guy who pierced my nose has been piercing for 12 years and he has been an EMT for 6 years. He knew a lot about this kind of stuff. Ok so first off it does not hurt!! MY eye water one tear. Second he told me to let it heal for 2 months before changing it. He told me not to put make up or face wash in that area for 2 weeks because it keeps the tissue from healing. I changed mine because the nose screw was bugging the heck out of me. I put in what they call a nose bone and it is just straight and the end has a little nub so it can't slide out easily. You can buy both nose bones and nose screws at walmart and hot topic so I see no need to use a regular ear stud in your nose. But I do not know if it matters. Some one asked the question is there away to hide it. (They work in a doctors office I think.) There is a thing called a retainer. They are clear plastic nose screws. You can still see them if you look close enough but for the most part it is hard to tell it is there. I still have trouble getting the plastic ones in though so if you get it done ask if they have nose bone retainers in stead of the screw.

Okay, from personal expierence there is a reason there is an age limit on piercings. Because most teenagers are to stupid to realise what piercing yourself with a SAFTEY pin will do to you. Oh I cleaned it. No. It could cause far more damage than you know. Get it done professionally, I wated 5 years to get my tongue done and I ended up taking it out.

And as far as Stud or Screw, I would say screw it will be easier for the healing time.  And getting them back in, go to a tatto palor and tell them you are having trouble they should charge nothing and show you how to do it.

Please, don't be stupid enough to do it yourself, and if you do at the least, study where the nerves are and use the professional stuff.

And as far as piercings go the most 'painful' is your nipples and its not really that bad. Your tongue is painless. And the nose is just like getting your cartledge done in your top ear.

I am really interested in getting my nose pierced but I just don't know the pain level. I've had my ears pierced a couple times, the cartalidge was the worst and it wasn't so much pain as just really hot. Does a nose piercing compare at all to this or is it something completely different?

I had my nose pierced about 3 yrs ago. They peirced it with a needle and used a tube thing to catch the needle, so it wouldn't stab me. They told me 3 months healing. I use ear peircing cleaner 2x a day. I had put a screw in (I had it peirced with a hoop) and it was perfect. After about 2 yrs the dimond fell out so i went to buy another and I accidently put the stud in, and it stunk. It got caught on my towel 2x. The 2nd time I couldn't get it back in. So about 1 yr ago I let it close. I recently got it done again and I got it pierced with the needle again sa,e as the 1st time, but I got a screw for the healing. It's working fine. I recomend ALWAYS using the screw. Mine has never been infected or hurt more than like the 1st two days after getting it done.

About the hoop...I just got my nose pierced, my Christmas present from my hubby.  I wanted a ring, not a stud or screw.  The piercer told me that he used a slightly larger hoop then necessary to allow for any swelling that might occur.  He told me to come back after a week and he could customize the hoop to something smaller to fit my face better.  I'm really not certain how the studs stay in.  As for pain...It stung.  It made my eyes water really bad for about 1/2 an hour.  I had it done in the evening and for the next several hours it hurt to yawn or sneeze, anything that required movement of the piercing site.  By the next day, it didn't hurt as much.  Course, blowing your nose is now an adventure.  However, due to washing it and the salt water, I did have a problem with the skin around the site getting very dry and flaky.  So carry around some good moisturizer with you.

Hello All, I had been thinking about getting my nose pierced for 3 years, I'm old now (28) and got it done...where? In CHINA, in a very shady-looking kiosk. I know, it sounds very risky! I hadn't slept in 29 hours, and just thought "why not". I was scared sure, but when she did it (with clamps and a REGULAR EAR STUD) (tweezers with a hole at the end, and pierced my nose with the actual stud) it only stung, my eyes watered, and I was fine. The aftercare part was harder for me as I'm in a foreign Country and can't read Chinese...I had a friend who took me to get antibiotic ointment to dab on the inside of my nose with a cotton swab, and hydrogen peroxide to apply to the outside. A week later, the stud was out (while I slept)so in the middle of the night I had to put in a new one (the kind with the knob at the end). It hurt to do it, but since has been fine. It's now been 6 weeks, and I know it's healing because I'm seeing those little crusties on the outside. MY POINT: I have been doing research, and from all my understanding, the best thing to do is...
1)Don't change the piercing for 4-6 months
2)Don't take it out for any reason (unless doctor says so
3)Clean it 2 times a day, by using tea tree oil liquid soap (disinfects, and is gentle)
4)Before cleaning, soak it in sea salt water (1/4 teaspoon per 8 ounces)
5)Don't touch it, or pick your nose!
6) Turn the piercing 2-3 times a day with clean hands, this will help healing.
7)If it seems to be infected go see a professional if you can. Otherwise use the sea salt rinse/soak, and don't touch it.

I know I said that I'd been using ointment, well I stopped as your body becomes immune to it eventually, and the thickness of it can actually harbor bacteria and trap dirt. The Hydrogen Peroxide was my idea just in case the earring wasn't that sterile, I have since read that using it causes scar tissue build up, and can over dry it, delaying the healing process. I know the sea salt thing works, since I had sinus surgery 2 yrs ago, and the surgeon had me do irrigation with it to promote healing, and clear out/prevent any infections. Make sure it is non-iodized SEA salt though, as regular table salt is too harsh.

Sorry, I think the screw sounds scary, so go to a piercing shop to see if they can help you put it back in...also, I don't recommend doing what I did...get your piercing done by a shop that specializes in it,preferably one that was recommended to you by someone who has been pierced there. Why not be safe?

Good luck to you all, and I hope this has been helpful to at least one person! Oh and I am very happy I got it done, finally!

OK, I got my nose pierced about 3 weeks ago. It does not hurt! It stings a little but it's worth it! Ur eyes will water a little but that's a reaction cause well.. it's your nose! . 1st off, wash your hands whenever u touch it! U know how many germs will get on it! & 2nd, Don't clean your piercing 2 much or it can get infected. When u get a cold, nothing happens & the same when u sneeze. & for the last time for you all that don't know.. Nose piercing's do not have backs!! The end of them have a tiny ball thing on them & it's small enough 2 take out & put back in but it won't fall out by itself unless it's 2 small!

I think its disgusting that children as young as 12 are getting their noses pierced. YOU HAVENT EVEN HOT PUBERTY!! STOP BEING IN SUCH A HURRY TO GROW UP!! what the hell are you doing with a stud in your nose at twelve anyway, it looks skanky on girls that young! go back to school and worry about your studies instead. YOUR PARENTS SHOULD BE SLAPPED OVER THE HEAD! yeah good parenting!!! having your kid look like a slut at 12!

well first of all they shouldnt't of told u that u could change it by 3 weeks b/c it takes 6 months to heal n unless u want an infection i don't think u should touch it. i could tell u from experience that trust me don't touch it. i rather have an ugly nose ring for 6 months than an infection that doesnt't go away. i had my nose pierced for 2 years now n the infection never went away. i have one of those bumps and i would always wear flower nose rings to cover it up but big mistake. my advice if u have a bump is to take it out n let it close n if u really want it again go n get it. this isnt't coming from someone who doesnt't know piercings. i have my tongue, belly button, 6 earrings on one ear and 3 on the other. never have a had this problem so i just took it out

excuse me. but i pierced my nose myself without my parents consent. my mom thought it would be kind of cute but my dad hated the thought of my having a 'stud in my nose'. but i did it anyways because i wanted to. i took a regular piercing earring and just shoved it though. it looks fabulous. but anyways, i got a nose stud at the store and i just took the earring out and put the nose stud in. i used to take it out while i was at home, and i had no problem getting it back in when i was away from home. but this morning, my dad and mom decided that since i like piercings that i could keep my nose ring. the point is, as long as you keep cleaning your piercing, it will be fine. my belly ring has got infected 3 times, but now its fine. i got it piercing in october... and its just great now. youll have no problem getting rid of the infection with warm/hot showers and antibacterial soap. thats it. end of story.

best of luck.

Ive had my piercing for a little over a wk now. I went to a reputable piercing and tattoo shop her in tx (Bombshells - Westheimer past Dunlavy). Ive clean mine twice a day and do a daily sea salt soak every night before I go to bed. I bled like a stuck pig, but the piercer told me that in the 5 yrs that he has been doing them, only one other person has bled as much as i did. Im not supposed to have any facial piercings at my job so I cut the corners off bandaids and cover just the ball when ever I walk down the halls at my office.
** in regards to the bump ***
8. What is the BUMP?
The BUMP looks like a small red or white pimple next to one of the entry holes of your nose piercing.

9. Why does this BUMP happen?
The BUMP can form for several reasons. Trauma to your nose piercing, poor aftercare, irritation to your nose piercing, changing your nose jewelry before the piercing is healed and excess stress on the piercing due to improper body jewelry can all help contribute to the fomation of the "Bump".

10. How long does the BUMP usually last?
How well you care for the BUMP will determine how long it lasts. Doing sea salt soaks and hot compresses will help draw impurities out and allow it to heal on its own. Popping it will cause trauma to the area and your piercing causing the BUMP to come back in a few days and possible scarring. If the "Bump" is not taken care of, it can last days, weeks or even months.

11. How do you avoid the BUMP?
Getting pierced by a reputable professional piercer that uses the appropriate nose jewelry (CBRs for nostril piercings and not screws or bones) and using proper aftercare. Emu oil also helps to heal and sooth, the itching or burning feeling.

12. Can you change your nose jewelry while the BUMP is there?
Usually changing your nose jewelry will make it worse, so wait until it has completely healed. Consult your piercer if you think that your nose jewelry may be causing the BUMP to occur.

NEVER USE A GUN TO PIERCE UR NOSE....OR ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER!!!! THEY R RARELY CLEANED PROPERLY (EWWWW!!) AND THE BLUNT TIP OF THE EARING THEY USE CAUSES MUCH MORE TISSUE DAMAGE THAN A SHARP NEEDLE.

I am a PROFESSIONAL body piercer at a well known tattoo shop in Kansas. All of you  are getting some VERY wrong information. When you go get your nose pierced, professionally, it is done with a needle, and usually a nose screw is put in. IT DOES HURT! And it takes 3-6 months to heal...not 6-8 weeks!(especially 3 weeks!) Do not change your piercing until it is fully healed. I have seen people try to take their nostril piercing out a whole year after getting it done and within 10 minutes it will close up. That's not to say it happens to everyone, but if you get it done, it's not smart to take it out unless you want it out for good. I tell my clients to clean it twice a day with non-perfumed soap and witch hazel. Once again, it is VERY VERY VERY important that you get it done professionally. Doing it yourself can lead to horrible infections, scars, and sometimes permenant bumps under the skin called keliods.

A few of my friends got theirs done and they said it don't hurt but my sister said it hurts like hell and I wanted some people's honest opinion about it. I am a mother of 3, I just let my 14 yr old get her belly pierced. The reason I let her get it done is because I  do care. To many kids do it themselves and become infected, which can cause serious problems. A piercing is just a hole, you can always take it out, now for the tattoo she wants, she will have to be 18, So not all parents, let them do it because they don't care, I simply wanted to make sure it was done right.

I had my nose pierced with a piercing gun, I found out this was bad AFTER I had it done. Anyhow, the inital earring they used came out so I bought studs, but they always popped out. I went to the guy who pierced my nose and he tried to tell me it closed up on the inside. I told him that was imposible b/c when I put a regualr earring in, I can see the post. I don't know if the post on reagular nose studs are smaller or what, but they always pop out. I had the piercer try to but a screw in and he didn't know what he was doing. He didn't even try to get it in the hole, he was just shoving and shoving. How can I put a screw in by myself? My screws are in the shape on an "L"

Ok, needles are better, because guns can get stuck, and they tear your skin more than needles do. Also, I reccomend H2Ocean, to clean it out. And the reason your eyes water, is because the piercing goes through a tear duct thingy.

okay. i'm 15, and i've pierced my own nose before. my mom had already said no to getting it done.. so i got mad and did it myself. lol i know. but anyway.. what i did was just get a clean sewing needle and a small earring stud and leave them in alcohol for a few minutes. then i cleaned my nose with alcohol, numbed it with ice, and pushed the needle through. after i got it all the way through, i took the needle out and replaced it with the stud. i left it in at night, took it out in the morning, and when i got to school i put it back in. i just had to take it out whenever i was around my parents. it never closed up and i never had any problems with it when i was taking it out and putting it back in and stuff. but one day i forgot to take it out and my mom saw it. so i had to let it grow up. lol.. but i've recently repierced it and yeah. i haven't had any problems at ALL. just make sure you use clean needles and studs.

good luck!

hey guys
I just got my nose pierced yesterday, and you DEF should not worry about a thing. form what I hear its illegal to have it done with a gun. but I have a stud in it, unless its called something else, I have a diamond stud. all they do is put alcohol on the spot, then take a clasp (a tong liek thing) put it in ur nose and the other half is covering the place where the piercer marked it, they take a small tiny needle and pierce it, leave it in, then put the piercing on it, take the neede out then its done. it seriousely did not hurt at all and I say you guys should get it done and shouldnt worry about a thing

You do NOT want to use the studs with the ball at the end.. most noses will close around the ball, and you can't get them out without A LOT of pain.. stick with the screw kind, once you get the hang of how to put it in its easy! just pull down on it kind of and to an angle.. its tricky at first. Getting your nose pierced doesnt hurt at all.. thats coming from a wimp lol. It stings of course, but ears hurt much worse, and the pains done in 5 seconds..!

I just got my nose pierced about a week ago, the guy told me to clean it 3 times a day with witch hazel and bacitracin inside and out. I haven't had any problems with it and it doesn't hurt one bit. He told me that to get the screw out you just pull up and twist so I'm assuming you would just twist it to get it back in, but i can't change it for a couple months so I'll let you know how it goes when I get a new one.

I have had my nose pierced 8 times on the left side - each time I had a screw put in and every time it would fall out by my accidentally pulling it out in my sleep or with a towel etc and I couldn't get the screw back in and it would close over.

I went for a few years without the nose ring as I figured I may as well give up as piercing scar tissue hurts much more than the initial piercing.

The other day I had to have it done again on the other side (its just part of me) but tonight in my sleep I scratched my nose and out the screw came again - again I couldn't get the screw back in but this time I thought ahead and also bought a hoop (or sleeper as we call them in Australia) and have put that in (I find its a bit big but will keep the hole open till I can get the screw put back in tomorrow) I tried for a good 10 minutes to get the screw back in but gave up - it was 2.30am - my tip if you get a screw is have a sleeper on hand just in case it comes out and you cant get the screw back in.

As for the young people trying to convince their parents - I'm 33 and have a 3 year old.  I don't want her having her ears pierced or anything pierced for that matter till she is old enough and responsible enough to look after it.  I don't feel I can tell my daughter when I feel she is old enough that she cant have these things done (unless her school wont allow piercings) as I have tattoos and piercings but be mindful that most schools will not allow nose piercings - so you will have the hassle of taking it out each day and either using a clear retainer or nothing for the day and hoping id doesn't close up - you also risk infection from the constant changing in the first 6 weeks or so - your not supposed to change the ring for at least a couple of weeks but 6 weeks is the best time frame so keep this in mind... Nobody can tell you how to convince your parents to let you have a piercing done - we don't know your parents or you so it really is pointless asking for advice like that here - however in saying that I think that if you really want it done so badly that you would consider doing it yourself then tell your parents this - they may change their mind and let you have it done professionally - I know if my daughter came to me and said if I didn't let her have it done properly she would do it herself I would take her to get it done as its much safer.

As for the question of Gun V Needle - I have had both, the gun hurts alot!  The needle only hurts for a few seconds when they put the needle in and then put the screw (or what ever) in - after that it hurts for a few days when you are cleaning it but only for a few seconds and thats it.

As for the question on how to get the screws in - forget it I don't know how LOL I will ask the lady tomorrow when I go back to have it put in how its done and post back here if I get any answers :)

This bump on your nose is NOT a keloid! Keloids are much worse.. Keloids are hard scar tissue that usually has to be surgically removed.

I have had my nose pierced for about a year now and I got that bump when I first got my nose done and I had no idea what to do... Then finally after using some creams it went away..

Then just this morning I got the bump back again and during my sleep the inside of my nose swelled up.. I took my stud out two hours ago to clean it and i popped the bump with a needle and I tried putting the stud back in and the bloody hole was closed! :(.. I tried putting the stud back in for about 30Min's but then i gave up because it hurt too much and now it's fully closed... It doesn't take that long to close.. Especially when its infected or has the bump/swelled.. It's just different for other people...

To get rid of this bump you can do two things...
A. You can use cream about 2-4 times a day. These creams can be: Sea salt, Hydro-cortisone cream USP 1%. But personally antiseptic cream worked for me...
Or B. Just leave your piercing alone. Don't touch it!

I am most likely going to get my nose re-pierced but I'm going to wait for it to heal over

If anyone needs any more information email me on crazie_rach_@msn.com or just reply back to this message

I got my nose done a while ago and so far it's done great. The first day after i got it done it was fine, the second day it bled a lot but after that it was perfectly okay. I don't recommend doing it yourself, that'll leave a lumpy thing, but if you do just keep it clean with dial antibacterial hand soap, and warm water, that's what i use (although i had mine done professionally) they said that's all i need to use and it'd be fine. I followed there advice and did my best not to touch it, and so far it's done great. and for those of you who are just waiting to get it done, it's not bad at all.

I am 17, I had my nose pierced about a month ago with a GUN. The guy doing it said he could do it with a  gun OR  a needle, and that the only difference was that the needle would hut a lot more.
There have been stories of guns shattering the cartilidge in your nose, and then the nose caving in - but everyone I know has had it done with a gun and they are all fine!
I also had mine done with a regular 'earring' stud, which I actually found a bit odd at first. But after much reasearch I found out that there actually is NO SUCH THING as a correct nose stud/ring. There is a huge selection from screw, bars, 'L's and rings.
Having said that, my piercing won't come out, because the butterfly clip on the other side is very stubborn, the sames happening with my second ear piercings - I think any of the other piercings are probably easier to get off after the healing process.
No scabbing or bleeding occurred during my healing process and..no cartilidge was 'shattered'.

Just offering my story..

I just pierced my nose yesterday with a gun, it did NOT hurt one bit...i put in a regular stud to begin with but it was a little big and it bothered me so i changed it the next day and my nose is a little sore but other than that my piercing is fine...and trust me a stud is MUCH better than the screw.

I have the same bump around my nose..and I was told to wash the area with a antibacterial soap and just gently while washing it apply a little preasure to the bump..because blood cells i dont remember if its the white or red ones but have got captured in a pocket that was created while your nose was healing...

I just pierced mah nose last night, and i have already read here NOT TO USE A EARRING.. but that is all i had.. and its a little swore and touchy but i think it will be fine. Mah Q is.. is Peroxide okay to clean the hole? And is it ok to go to walmart tonight to get a stud then change it out from mah earring in right now? Or should i wait a few days or weeks? Thank you!

I got a nose ring about a week ago and they told me to not spin the nose ring around. That is what causes the "bump" which is your body's way of rejecting the jewelry.
do NOT spin the ring or stud. Clean with clear unscented soap 2x'sa day and salt water 1x a day. Get the piercing done by a professional and done at a clean reputable place.

if you get your nose pierced with a gun its more apt to get infected with the big bumps than if you get it with a needle. ive had my nose pierced for a month. to KJ: you dont have to change it by 3 weeks...actually, that would be bad. leave it in for 6-8 weeks and after that go to the place you got it done and they will change it for you. i have a screw and i havent had any problems with it. im just worried about taking it out because it looks hard.

I got my nose pierced a week and a half ago.  it was done at a professional place with a hollow needle and a nose screw.  the needle and the screw are definitely the best options.  i had a little welling the first day or two but after that the pain and swelling went away.  id recommend not touching the first few days and soaking it it non-iodized salt water.  as to getting the screw in...mine actually just fell out and to get it back it i rotated it, following the shape of the screw and "screwed" it back it.  it took some force but i managed it, I'm sure you can too.  id say if your nose is red, swollen, or hurting, more than 3 days after, its prolly infected and you should get someone to look at it.  also don't use bacitracin to help it heal it will only trap the infection in.  hope i was of some help.

Putting in a nose screw...
Place the flat of your thumb inside your nose, pressing against the inner hole. This should widen the outer hole a bit, giving you a better visual on the outside to start.
Insert the pointy end of the screw into the outer hole and Begin to turn clockwise, screwing in the nose screw. When you feel the tip of the nose screw on your thumb, remove your thumb and continue to turn screw until it easily slides in.
Practice makes perfect.  If it's a new piercing and your re putting it in It will be a bit painful.  Use warm saltwater to clean the area if it's sore afterward.

if you've gone to a proper piercing specialist they shouldn't have told u that u can change it it 3 weeks. because of the way the tissue on your nose is formed it takes 4-6 months to properly heal, you change it any time before that and your risking getting a lovely infection. ive got enough piercings to know that you should always leave it to heal just that bit longer anyway.
as for these others, why would you ever even consider havin your nose pierced with a gun, if you dont like needles dont have it done...simple as that! as for u 12 and 13 year olds havin their noses pierced...they place an age limit on it 4 a reason.. no where should even consider piercing anyone under 18...if they do they're not professionals

Um hello you all.. I am 14 .. i have 9 piercing on my body that have all been done by me! NEVER got an infection, and i know almost all there is to know about piercing! I have 4 on my left ear (2 have been gaged) and 3 on my right ear (1 gaged), i have the top and bottom of my belly button, right side of my lip, and left nostril (done last night)..
i always start out with a normal earing after sterilizing it an the needle! then i gage ever hole more and more until it is to the normal size... (i also use hollow needles) ! when i did my nose last night it didn't hurt at all the only pain i have had with it all day was when i was sleeping and my huge dog stepped on my face and ripped out my stud! (OUWWWWCCHH) but no getting our nose pierced doesn't hurt that bad maybe a quick pinch a little eye watering and pretty much its over... just make sure the jewelry does not pinch the skin because it is best for the jewelry and piercing to be able to move a bit freely ... DO NOT MESS WITH IT DO NOT TAKE IT OUT (unless close to the end of the healing process but ONLY for cleaning) if any one need any advice or help let me know!

You cannot convince your parents to let you have piercings.

If you have trouble putting in to taking out a screw go to your local piercer and they'd be more than happy to help you most of them would do it for free.

Never ever ever pierce anything with a gun. It cannot be sterilized and can spread HIV, hepatitis, and any other blood disease.

help, I got a little messed up and re-pierced my tongue that I had done professionally almost a year ago. should I take it out immediately? it has been in for about an hour or less. someone tell me if I'm just being stupid or if it's okay. It didn't' give me too much trouble except the very end of the re-pierced process when I could see the end but there was a small thin layer of tongue I guess you'd say over it. It didn't hurt till I used mouth wash (listerine) right after...cause i remembered the mouth wash part. lol.
can anyone help me out?

i got my nose pierced in like December. did not hurt that much at all.  it was quick pinch, kind of like ear piercing.  do NOT get it pierced with a gun, piercing guns are not that sterile and will cause more problems then needed.  guns shouldn't even be used on the ears, but that is a different store.  i got the screw when i got mine pierced, i ordered a stud and some more screws, so hopefully i can figure out how to put them in and out... lol AND another note don't buy your nose jewelry at Claire's! really bad idea, buy either gold or surgical steel !!  the stuff they have at Claire'snot good !! and your piercer should have told you that and should have pierced it with a needle !!

You guys are all little kids! wow, but anways, you should not get it done with a gun and earring stud, that's just stupid. Professionals don't even use a gun, that's just for people unexperienced at like.. claires or something.
Anyways, listen, getting it done does not hurt but be careful with it. when I got it done awhile ago, it got caught on towels and stuff, that's how they get infected. mine didn't but just leave it alone!

Ive just had my nose pierced and the screw fell out in the night and the hole partially closed up. i tried to push it back through but i'm not very good with pain. I've just spent an hour trying to do it. What i did was get an UNUSED earing, which has a much slimmer post, and slowly pushed that through to clear the hole again, then i put the screw in, which went in up the curl all the way to the straight bit. Then it was just a matter of pushing it slowly (making sure the curl inside my nose was facing the exit inside my nose)in. It hurt a little because the post is bigger than the earing stud, but i'm going to wear a plaster over my nose at night now so this never happens again!!

As for the question for hiding it for work... you could wear a clear bar in it, or you could cover it up with foundation, which is what my friend does, however you shouldn't do this unless the piercing is COMPLETELY healed, otherwise it can become infected!

I am about 14 1/2 and I want to get my nose pierced. Ofcourse, my dad said probably but i have to sit down with both my parents and talk it over with them. fine. I know I wont have a nose ring when in 60, and i probably won't remember to put on concealer everyday. I have a few questions for the brave people:
1. how much did it hurt?
2. what type of ring should i get?
3. where should i get it done?
4. who did you go with?
5. do you have any experience of what kind of mark it leaves.

please answer my questions, and if you are only answer a specific one or some, put the number down to please.

To answer everyone's question about the screw, what you're supposed to do is put the thumb of one hand on the inside of your nose and press lightly so you can feel when the screw comes out the bottom of the piercing.  Then you just twist it into your nose.  However, I couldn't accomplish this (I guess my piercing swelled or something because I couldn't get it to come out of the bottom). So, what I did was I stuck an earring in there (after cleaning it of course) to keep it from closing, went out to the garage and dug through my dad's tools.  I found some needle nose pliers and opened the screw up into a shape that I could get into my nose more easily.  It's almost an L shape now.  Then I cleaned it and got it back into my nose with no problem.

Hey Jen... they have clear nose studs and even flesh colored studs...you can go to any Claire's or Hot Topic at any mall they are about 5 to 15 dollars. And to answer the other question everyone I have talked to has had to go back to their piercer to get the screw jewelry back in...it is VERY difficult. I work with a piercer part time and she has ALOT of trouble getting them in after they have been removed. Sorry wish I had better news. Just keep trying and go to your piercer. Good Luck:)

Hey Everyone!

I've had my nose pierced for alittle over a month now -  I had problems using the studs (bones) because they were CONSTANTLY falling out.   So I finally put a nose screw in - I had to bend it wider to get in in and then I bend it with tweezers on the inside to adjust it to fit.  I havent had any problems since.   It was reccomended to me to bend the studs and the bones as well to keep them from falling out - so dont be afraid to bend your jewlery!   I dont think that EVERYONE's nose or piercing is exactly the same so you'll probably have to bend your nose screw a little bit anyway if you dont get it in right away and you should be fine.

Ok, first of all, none of you should be getting your nose pierced with an earring stud in the hole.  It's not legit, and the piece is called an EARring stud for a reason; it's for you EAR!  I've had my nose done for a year, and I've never had any problems with it minus getting a corkscrew piece that wasn't bent right.  And none of you should be piercing your nose yourself, you're begging for your nostril to fall off.  If you're not old enough to get it done at a legit parlor and your parent(s) won't sign for it, you shouldn't be getting it done.  There is a reason why there is a specific age you have to be to get a piercing without parental consent, and it's to stop silly little tweens and young teens from messing up their body because they're not old enough to understand how to properly care for the piercing.  You should really think things through before you go and do it to "be cool."  Ask yourself this, do you really think people would find you cool when you pierce your nose yourself, it gets infected, and you have a messed up nose because of it?  NO; no one's going to want to talk to you anymore.  All of you who are doing this yourself need to GROW UP!

I got a screw and changed it to a hooked stud after a while. it looks great but keeps falling out. i can never get it back in but my mum does it for me. it WILL not heal over in a day, but may close a little, making it only a tiny bit more painful than if you put it straight in! good luck!
By the way, anybody have a toungue piercing, i want one but dont know if it hurts of catches on ur teeth and food or what, x x x)

To answer the question that first started this discussion just because I happened to stumble across the discussion, (and yes, I know no one has posted here for about 3 years, but...) it is safe to use a nose stud as the initial jewelry.  I got my left nostril pierced twice about 3 months ago, and both times, the piercer used a hollow needle, and put just a straight, simple stud in the hole with nothing to hold it in place.  At first, the stud fell out real easily and it was a pain to deal with, but it's a good thing to use because just in case you want to take it out, you don't have to disturb the hole much to get it out since there's much less to remove.

I still use a stud even though the hole is healed just because it's comfortable and doesn't poke the inside of your nose, which is very helpful just in case some annoying friend decides to squeeze your nose (I would know from experience).
