When the female goes into heat. Signs of her going into heat are swelling of the vulva and vaginal discharge. When these signs start, put the female in with the male every other day till she lets him breed her(this could be as short as the first day or over two weeks. It varys in dogs.) When she does get pregnant she will be for 58-66 days. To rule out false pregnancy you can get repro check(a dog pregnancy test) at your vet after 3-4 weeks along in your dogs pregnancy. Also you should do as much research on whelping as possible. Small dogs tend to have more trouble having pups so you need to be there as she whelps and know what to expect so you can be ready to call the vet if necessary. This is very important as irresponsibility on your part could result in the loss of the lives of the pups and the mom. I found a wonderful site that tells you all you need to know about pregnant dogs and whelping. Go to http://www.hilltopanimalhospital.com/reproduction.htm and click on a link. Good luck!
