Yes Dalmations are good guard dogs, but friendly too.
They will bark at strangers as it they would bite them, but once you are near to them they will be docile.

They are the perfect companions. They love there masters but at times are ignoring them too.

Our dalmation 13yrs young is having numerous urination problems...no control. She is very housebroken and this problem just started a month ago. I'm afraid the end is near...any input? She has a visit to the vet next week but I'm so afraid the news will be bleek.

i just want to say that, i had a dalmation for 11 years. i just put him to sleep today (his hind legs went out, and his bowls became very bad).

he was the most loyal, best dog i have ever had. he never ran away even though i would let him run around on his own, and if i some how lost him he would return to my house on his own.

not to mention he was very smart, and very friendly to my other dog (a mini pincher). he couldnt go 1 night without sleeping in my bed, thats how loyal he was.

I have the most wonderful Dal, her name is Penny.  She just turned 9 years old.  I took her to the Vet yesterday (she had arthritus and needed to be re-checked).  The Dr. did some blood work (because of her age) and discovered the early stages of kidney disease.  Is this a common problem with Dalmations?

My beloved Mindy girl.  It has been almost two days since I had to let you go.  You were so sick and you still were a wonderful friend and pet.  You were about the most perfect dog anyone could ever hope for. I rescued you and you paid me back 1000 fold.   You were born in Nov. 1992 and you died on March 22, 2007, so you had a long life and it was probably because you knew how very much I loved you, would miss you and needed you and still do.  I miss you every minute of my waking hours. The pain is about unbearable.  I hope it gets better, but I will never forget you.  Mindy, oh sweet Mindy.  You were one in a million. I love you and always will!
