after about 37 years the akita breed can have pups.  I personally have this breed and my 34 year old dog just had her first litter.  Good luck!

Do not breed until 2 after health xrays and eye exams are done.  Last breeding not recommended after 8 years of age due to problems with uterine inertia.

in dog years they can be 37.  that would be 5 years poeple age.  I breed akitas and if you start breeding at the second cycle or 2 years old, the sire can only sire 6 akc litters before DNA sampling is needed.  My experience this is a good time to stop because you should breed every other heat.  the dog would then be 7-8 years old.  My female is on her 5th litter and this will probably be her last.  I would suggest 7 years old would be a good stopping point.

Dogs should only be bred after having passed all health certification and only to better (improve) the breed in question.

Spay your dog.

Dogs should only have 1 or 2 litters of pups in their lifetime, and ONLY if they are quality show dogs. She should be bred ONLY if sh eis at least 2 years old and no more than 6 years old.
