I adopted a 2 yr old female through ESRA two months ago.  I was told that her original owner kept her in a kennel for 22 out of every 24 hours per day.  She went from 18+/- months there to a foster home, with two bouncing English Springer Spaniels and four cats, who act like dogs.  In that household, the animals rule.

Since I've gotten my dog, she has started pooping in her crate.  Initially, she only went outside, but now it's four days out of five in the work week that I come home to poop that she's laid on.

I have gotten her a crate more sized to her 45 pound body (after having her in a much larger one).  I thought this might make a difference but NO!!!! today I again came home to poop.  She is not adverse to eating her own poop outside in the yard.

Is this curable?  I'll happily take her to a behavioralist if it's something that can be addressed, but GOOD GRIEF!  I'm at the end of my rope.  She has other peculiar behavior that is slowly diminishing over time.  But this pooping thing has me just nuts.  Any suggestions??  Alice

What you can try is after the dog poops in the crate, pick the poop up with your dog and put the poop and your dog outside. It will probably not work the first time but it might work after a few times, I did that with my dog but with pee. MY puppy was peeing in the house and i took a cloth and wiped it up and nailed it to the porch and showed my dog it and after that he never peed in the house again.
