Does circle of protection (any color) work both ways?

Can u assign it blocking and attacking? on one or more creatures.....as long as you have the mana to pay for it?

Just read the card, and all your questions will be ended. It says it prevents the next damage to YOU. It doesn't work on anything else but YOU. You pay the 1, set up your prevention shield, then wait until a source of said color would try to deal damage to you, then prevent it.
