Is there such a thing as a miniature Great Dane.  Someone is trying to get rid of their one year old Great Dane.  I have not seen the dog but my daughter said she is one years old and a medium size dog.  Will they grow more after the age of one or is that their size

I don't think so. Dogs are fully mature at two years of age so he could get bigger. Great Danes are large not medium sized dogs.

I have heard "Miniature Great Dane" too, in one dog breed list. But I'm not sure, is this breed truly true. You can search with google.

Well Jimmy my answer is that there is no such thing as a mini great dane because all puppies are cute but when they get older they grow huge. That might be the reason your daughter thought it was medium sized. thats my answer and I am sticking to it. I hope you chose my advice.

Maybe that was just a small (100 pound or so) Great Dane and the person had had other Great Danes so was thinking of it as small.

Probably just a poorly bred Great Dane. No such thing as a "miniature" Great Dane.

Do you really believe what a pet store tells you? They will sell you a mixed breed dog for $800 when you can get a free one at the SPCA or any rescue organization - try petfinder.com - save a pet and save some money

NO, there is no such thing as a miniature Great Dane!  Anyone, whether it is a pet store (they typically sell puppies from puppy mills...yikes!) or backyard breeder (they typically breed with little to no concern about the standard), who claims to be selling such an animal is misrepresenting the breed.  Do your research, and then refer to the standard for the Great Dane.  The standard is very specific on conformation.  There are a lot of breeders out there that claim to have a rare this or that, but these puppies are not rare, their unique "quality" is a fault.

No, there isn't a real "breed" known as a miniature Great Dane. Sometimes breeders will end up with a genetic "anomally" in their litter that is sometimes called a runt. It is just a smaller than normal Great Dane. They cannot be shown since they don't meet the Great Dane standard for size, but they can be great pets. They should never be bred. Great Danes are usually as tall as they'll get by 18 mths.
