I have a 2001 Sebring sedan with the 2.4 l engine and the AT4 transmission.  It takes AT-4 transmission fluid, according to the owner's manual.  Two questions - 1) Why did Chrysler design their transmissions so that they needed a special fluid like AT-4 or At-5?  2)  My dealer says I should change the trans fluid every 30K miles, the owner's manual says every 48k miles.  Which do I believe?  Thank you.

The fluid should be changed as I was informed by the place that I get my oil changed that it is supposed to be every 48K miles because they said that I was due for one at my last change.  They said that it is not always required because mine was fine when they checked it.
