what is the breeding cycle for miniature dachshunds, more specifically, what day or days following the onset of bloody discharge are they receptive to fertilization?

From the first signs or heat she can be fertilized in a very varying length of time. Some dogs will allow breeding in the first few days while others will wait for over two weeks or even three! To find her time put her in a pen with a male every other day until she lets him. There is no other way to tell. I know this is inconvenient but the lengths of heats in dogs is so varying that you don't have much of a choice. However, once you find out her time in one heat it should be about the same through the rest of her heats.

I have a dachshund and I noticed she seemed to be a little swollen in her "area" but never saw blood or anything. I also noticed her nipples seemed bigger than they had been before,(this was her first heat cycle) so I assumed that was why. She has been bleeding now for almost 2 weeks, and today she got out of the house and met up with a bigger dog and he "got her" and they were stuck together for about 10 minutes. I just wonder if she could be pregnant, (b/c I interrupted them) yet they were stuck together, or if she could have gotten pregnant before I KNEW she was in heat. Also, if she was pregnant, would she still be pushing her behind in front of male dogs and be VERY receptive towards them, (we have a 14 yr old neutered male)so no danger there! NEED HELP SOON! Please email me at LSNURSE2BE@AOL.COM

there is another way to tell. you can put the palm of your hand to the base of her tail and if she lifts her bum up then she is ready.

I have a one year old male dachshund. I have bred him one time and decided not to do it again. My question is after we get him fixed (4wks) will he still lift his leg on my furniture?

Most of the time you breed your Dachshund on the tenth twelfth and fourteenth day from when they start their cycle. You can also watch and when their discharge clears thats a good sign.

I heard that often miniature dachshunds have small pelvis' and the females have to have a c-section to give birth. Is this true?
