you should not need to reformat.firstly you should download avg'sfree antivirus.its at grisoft. next if you have windows m.e it is quite easy to get rid of the trojan horses.run avg and it will heal ALMOST all the files.you will then be left with a file of the trojan (or several files depending on which it is) in your restore file.make a note of the numbers that avg comes up with these will be cpy files.then you will need to unhide all hidden files. this will result in showing your restore file DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE... next right click my computer.then right click properties.click the performance tab.at the bottom of that page click the file system tab.on the next page click troubleshooting.then on the final page find the disable restore file and check the box and click apply.you will then need to restart your computer.it might start in safe mode but usually M.E starts straight up.before looking for the files by hand open my computer then open c drive and right click on the restore file you will be presented with a chance to scan again with avg do this and you will probably find the trojan has automatically been deleted of not you will have to search for the files by hand and delete them. this sounds like a a lot of work but it only takes about 5 mins from start to finish once you have avg installed.i get trojans as reguler as clockwork and find this is as easy a way as any to get rid of them again.for other malware i suggest "spybot search and destroy 1.2" this gets rid of spyware and also CWShredder for any other annoying little problems.all three can safely be run side by side and all are free for home users.hope this helps some of you at least.

this is for all people with the trojan horse virus or already have it what ever you do do not download any off the net beacause you would let it get settle in right in your computer and then it will feast on you memory and your speed of your computer and then you would get real annoyed so you should lissen to this message and then you would be advise to lissen to me so then you would be in the safe zone like what e.paterson is partly true like 1.99% true but the one thing that I would agree on him is to get a Anit-Virus prog that is upgrated at 10.0 and then nothing would get in that well or by it at a stor if you want to talk more sen me an e-mail. at tacobell29@hotmail.com

e patterson's answer to ridding any computer of the trojan virus within the system restore of computers was about the most simplistic yet workable explanation to ever hit this worldwide internet we all cruise around onto...thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope it's okay that I pass this on to others...?  Another thing I utilize is Ad Aware on top of Grisoft's AVG, Spybot and CWShredder

I too got a trojan horse virus PSW.Biopsy A. AVG found it but when I run it it can't find it; but I keep getting notices to run my AVG for windows. I am updated with my AVG, so how come it can notify me that it sees it but that it can't find it when I run AVG? Just incase this helpful it says that it is located in C:\system volume infomration\-restore {37EB6834-5D47-469-AA57-C7EE6FB00DB}\A0024415.dll
* I think I got this off of Peter Gabriel's website over the  New Year holiday. When I clicked on one of Pictures my screen flashed virus which I have not ever got into the vault.

Start Your computer in safe mode instead, and then try to run the anti virus program. This should make it easier for the anti virus program to heal the infected files.

I have gotten several Trojan Horse viruses and my wife just had one on her computer today. We both run XP I have home she has Pro. She has the Downloader.Q.down.C and I am currently trying turning off the system restore/restarting in safemode/and rerunning AVG to clean the virus out. I will let you know if it works. My AVG caught the PSW.briss.D and PSW.briss.E trojans a couple of days ago and I was not even aware of it but checked my test results after my wife's trojan showed up. I have done three scans since and they are not showing up so I assume they are gone. On April 29th I was infected with the Revop.C and PSW.briss.A and also had a warning of a possible infected start page. Of course my start page had been changed to something I had no idea what it was and a search bar had been installed on my computer that appeared above my task bar at the bottom of the screen. I spent my entire morining cleaning up. It took a total of three scans with AVG to finally get rid of all the infected files. OR at least I think they are all gone. Unless they have the ability to hide and rear their ugly faces another time. Who knows?

OK, I appear to have rid myself of these trojan horses by following the suggested restore off scan restore on. this is in windows XP Home or Pro. Turn off system restore/restart computer/go to housecall.trendmicro.com and use the free virus scan option. It will download latest definitions to your computer and then scan. after scan turn system restore back on. I then scanned again after that. If it still finds trojan horses then after you turn off system restore, reboot into safe mode to do your scan then after scanning reboot into normal mode and turn your system restore back on. That is how I cleared up my wife's computer.  To turn off system restore right click on my computer/left click properties/left click on system restore tab/and put a check mark in the turn off system restore box/then click apply. To turn it back on simply remove that check mark and click apply. To get into safe mode if needed while computer is restarting continuosly tap f8(no need to pound on it just a steady contiunous tap) a black screen with a white lettered menu will come up asking you how you would like to start up your computer. choose "SAFE MODE" and hit enter. Hope this helps.

All Trojan horses are hidden files, in order to get at them you will need to go to the Files Option (click the View tab)at Control Panel and uncheck both the *Hide file extension for known file types & *Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)-boxes, then OK yourself out. Then you will need to restart your computer and go into SafeMode by HOLDING the F8 key DOWN -(at bootup - after the first screen info - be quick!) and choose SafeMode. [You have to use your keyboard when you're in SafeMode - the keys to use are Ctrl/Alt/Delete (to exit the Help and Support screen) - Tab/Arrow keys/ Pageup/Pagedown/ the Window key(between Ctrl & Alt) & Enter]
So, from the DeskTop screen press the Window key to get Start/ arrow up to Search/ arrow right to For Files or Folders and type up the NAME OF THE FILE & EXT (not for example horse.winshow.V) but the actual name of the file, which would have shown up on your anti-virus software. To delete this file from here just press Page Up to highlight the file and then delete. To get out of Search -Alt F/ arrow down to Close and press Enter.  Press the Window key to shutdown and restart your computer.

It will be safe to empty your Recycle Bin in the Normal mode where you can use your mouse.

I have had 4 trojan horses on my C drive and kinda figured out the above method a week ago. After unchecking the hidden files boxes I deleted the Temp file (as these keep putting the same files back into your system) from the _Restore folder , then went to SafeMode to delete what virus files that were still there. My computer is now absolutely FREE of these pests!

hope this helps...Phyl

ps. I also have AVG 6.0 (the free one) & also the Ad-aware 6 and I use them every day as my kids love to play games from the Internet.

This is for Cheryl regarding the Trojan Horse Program she feels is on her computer.  Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com, once you get there choose your country, and then let Trend Micro configure itself so that it can "scan" your computer for viruses.  When it has completed configuring, put a single checkmark next to the C:\ Drive, push the SCAN button and let it run.  If it finds anything, it will be displayed for you to deal with it.  There is no "easy answer"  Good luck!  Steven :)

I also have Downloader.Apropo.d...cleaned it out with the AVG6.0 and disabled the System Restore as above.  Everything looked nice...until the programmes which create these files recreated it.  This trojan is like herpes...you only "see" the result when it tries to breed..the actual bug is hidden deeper...there are several processes going on...thats how i believe it is working...but i am not good enough to dig it out...despite about 15 hours so far...i have read of people managing to get rid of it...i think if i had gone into safe mode and restored at a date prior to infection, that would have worked...as it is now I have deleted all those early restore points with the attempt to clean up as described by e.patterson, so now i have to find those progs...i think they are in the system root files...of course the thing is not doing much harm as far as i can tell..AVG has got it spotted and denies it access...but it is annoying and destabilises my system...

Hi there. I am having some issues with viruses as well. AVG has cleared out all of my infected files with the exception of two of them which are embedded. I can't do a system restore anymore because like an idiot, I turned it off and now have no good date to go back to. I've tried multiple programs that can't get rid of them. I've heard the only way to do it is re-format or take it in, and I'm not going to take it in. So, I will probably re-format. The virus won't let me get on the computer anymore, so unless there is a program that will get rid of embedded Trojan Horse Bispy.B and whatever other one I have, then I'll have to download it onto a disk and transfer it to my comp. :P

I got this information from www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/faq.asp

"C:/system volume information is a special, protected system folder. Nothing, including anti-virus programs, can modify it. All you have to do to get rid of this Trojan (which is not active by the way, but will be if you'll use the restore function of Windows) is to disable the restore Windows feature. On Windows XP you can do this by right clicking on the "My Computer" icon then choose Properties, System Restore and check the box: "Turn off System Restore on all drives", hit apply, and restart the system. Your System Volume Information Folder should now be gone and the Trojan with it."

I hope it will help.

For anyone running windows 98/98se who has Trojans "stubby.a" & "bispy. a to d", Grisoft have dowloads to deal with these.  It took be about 10 minutes to remove both viruses today.  When removing "bispy.a to d" run in safe mode.

I also have a virus and it is Called Trojan Horse. It makes web pages pop up even when all of mine are closed and it also gives me pop-ups. I am practically computer-illiterate and had a virus on my windows XP before. it was called spybot and it messed up my computer. Now, when it freezes, the button you push to turn on and off your computer doesn'twork. you have to flip the power strip off and back on. I found it yesterday and tried to do print screen to save&print out the things said on my screen, but my computer would not let me. Norton Antivirus also said a few more times that I had it, so i have it in multiple files and all of the files it said that access was denied except on one. I you have any more advice, please tell. Thanks,
-e

hey, I think i got Trojan horses from opening an email from a friend. I did this a while ago, got Trojan horses, (this is all on my mums work computer) and she had 2 pay £50 to get rid of it.

She put a password on the computer but i kinda sneaked on when she left to check my mail, and then the thing popped up saying "Do you want to restart your computer now?" i pressed no, but the computer said that there's a serious problem has occured. Do you think i have it again???

She's gonna KILL me!!!

This is a clearer version of the directions to rid yourself of all Trojans!!

thank you, E.Patterson, the man who saved us

--------------------------------------------
You don't need to reformat your computer to cure yourself of TROJAN! .first you should download AVG'sfree anti-virus.its at grisoft.com, or "http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5" to be exact. next if you have windows Millennium Edition(M.E.) it is quite easy to get rid of the Trojan horse viruses. Run AVG Anti-virus and it will heal ALMOST all the infected files. you will then be left with a file of the Trojan (or several files in some cases) in your restore file. make a note of the numbers that AVG comes up with, these will be ".cpy" files. then you will need to unhide all hidden files. this will result in showing your restore file DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE... next right-click My Computer. then click Properties. click the Performance tab. At the bottom of that page click the File System tab. on the next page click Troubleshooting. then on the final page find the disable restore file and check the box and click Apply. you will then need to restart your computer. it might start in safe mode but usually M.E starts straight up. Before looking for the files by hand, open my computer then open the C-Drive and right click on the restore file. You will be presented with a chance to scan again with AVG do this and you will probably find the Trojan has automatically been deleted. If not, you will have to search for the files by hand and delete them. this sounds like a a lot of work but it only takes about 5 minutes from start to finish once you have AVG installed. I get Trojans as regular as clockwork and find this is as easy a way as any to get rid of them again. For other malware I suggest "Spybot Search and Destroy 1.2" Which can be located at "http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html"      -this gets rid of Spyware and also CWShredder for any other annoying little problems. (I also suggest downloading Ad-Aware- located at "http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button") All three can safely be run simultaneously and all are absolutely free for home users. Hope this helps some of you at least.

You try that grisoft.com website and dowload their antivirus it works better than norton and others i think!!! U can even get a free version there but tha is not advisable...... u can delete those files who carries those viruses later manually, if it doesnt work on the normal mode just note the path somewhere and delete it in dos mode or safe mode

Hey something you might want to know!Download lavasoft,Why?Because some Trojans can hide like a reg program,or disable your avg and other virus fighters..lavasoft is a free down load.It won't get rid of the Trojans but it will tell you where their at.And it gets rid of most other spy ware..And again it's free..Then go back up to PHYL and follow the path phyl laid out.But don't stop there...Go to DiamondCS website...download free( Process Guard)  You'll love this program... It stops the virus from running on your computer..Which makes it easy for avg to delete it.. Read what else it does..If you need more info from me (billy040555@aol.com )

What's with the multiple question marks? Does this make the answer/question more important? And the language on this page, my God. You're all illiterate. No wonder you're all getting viruses! Relax, people. Get a decent antivirus program, quit downloading crap from the web and you'll be OK. Good grief. It's not the end of the world. Does ANYONE here, actually have ANYTHING important on their computer?

like everyone else on here I feel like AVG.is the best anti-virus, download it and let it fine the virus, when you fine it delete the files that are infected, check your hiding files to if you read all of the answer on this site you well know how to do that.if you have a copy of your windows xp you can run it and pick to replace missing files, to replace the files u delete,if you have a dell or gateway 2000 you will have a copy. if you don't have xp, go and get you a copy of it, but get the vuris off before insalling it. I have master the reformat the hard drive of my computer and have all of my disk to re-insall all of my programs but its still take around 3 hours.

I've only had my pc for a little over a month.  My pc came with Norton installed.  My brother suggested that I use AVG.  I downloaded and installed the FREE version and scanned my computer.  AVG immediately detected the trojan virus.  It deleted all but one component of the virus.  I came to this website and read some of the feed back about the virus.  I went to Walmart and bought SpyWare Killer and it wiped out what was left of the virus.  I am now virus free.  I read what E. Patterson wrote. I tried that but I have XP.  I could not find the file he was talking about (I'm not saying that it didn't work, I just couldn't figure out how to do it).  Good luck to all.  I am still in the dark about what the virus is and what damage it does to your computer.  Please help if you can.

Ok... No one ever posted an answer to the windows 2000 or 98 editions for some of these trojans... My laptop has an outdated version of norton, the newest version of avg, adaware, spybot search and destory, and spyblaster... I had a folder in winnt/temp/autoudate that was causing the problems along with a zeta.exe, bullseyenetwork, adwinform, and about 3 trojans... even explorer did not want to load at times

THIS IS WHAT WORKED:
Startup in safemode by pressing the f8.. run (together) avg, spybot, adaware (I did this 3 times to start.. this did get rid of a lot of stuff)
Then when I did not have the options of deleting/healing/quarentining etc some of the trojans.. i restarted again into safemode but with networking and ran the www.pandasoftware/activescan and mcafee free stinger scan.. these got rid of some of the trojans but not all..
Before rebooting (again) I ran my old norton which managed to get rid of one... and decided to do a defrag and disk cleanup... going into my computer it would still not let me delete the folders autoupdate .. but i refused to give up
Rebooted one more time into safemode (no networking this time).. briefly ran the spybot/adaware/avg and they still found the stuff but didnt want to get rid of it...
finally a friend suggested I try using "clean disk security" to remove the folders.. it worked.. ran avg it found the one trojan.. deleted it...
Rebooted and my laptop and the one computer is now working fine I am glad to say. My laptop runs on 2000 and the computer runs on 98... The other computers on our network use xp and following e-pattersons advice worked on those

Hey my e-mail is idic@rock.com
Basically, I learnt some things about trojans and hacking
So I know how they work
Deleting by hand is not safe... you may destroy files that aren't viruses or may delete a repairable file that was important for the system
Formatting may end up with your drives getting bad sectors
The best method I would suggest is to download an updated antivirus from some where else and install it in your pc in SAFE MODE. then scan the entire system thoroughly
After the bugs are found, delete them, repair if possible. Usually softwares like avast! antivirus has a boot time scan which is the best as it does not allow the virus to get smart and escape. You can download avast! by searching for it at www.google.com. It gives you a trial period too and it is just about 8 MB, which is almost 1/12 of NAV. It is powerful too.
If you want to test your antivirus' functioning and see whether it is working, you can mail to me asking for the AntiVirus Checker Software. It is Free and I made it myself.
Always there to help!

Ok i have windows XP and I recently noticed that I caught a virus. Problem: I have no idea what virus I have... what ever it is it has a ton of files than it wont allow me to delete. I found these files all over my computer i mean EVERYWHERE!!! Every time i try to delete them it will do one of these two things: allow me to delete it, then in a matter of seconds make a copy of it's self and place it back where the other was, or say the file is in use by other ppl on my computer.. and it cant be deleted.

I've tried a ton of different solutions and none of them work. also none of them say what virus i have.
I know I have one though my computer is really responding to it...

(Changes home page back to this "about black" page every time. Adds files into my favorites folder. Slows my computer WAY DOWN, and last but not least, doesn't allow me to delete over 80 files on my computer....)

I think a lot of u can see my frustration!
Plz email me with any solutions.

pep22120@yahoo.com thx!!

first of all I'd like to say how oddly comforting it is to find so many people suffering from the same affliction as i. the Trojan horse "virus". the sneakiest bugger I've yet to come across in my many wasted teenage years of Internet surfing. though i can't exactly aid anyone in the removal of this infuriating pest (I'm still trying to deal with my own Trojan files. 45 in all, and you all thought you had problems!) i have noticed that amongst all of these posts no one has said HOW we GET Trojan.horse to begin with. that's probably because so many people posting on here are self confessed "computer illiterates". so here's how you probably unknowingly put the virus onto your system. you more than likely downloaded it yourself. no one sent it to you, or installed it, you down loaded it. just like i probably did. Trojan.horse viruses come onto your computer in the form of "harmless" downloads. so although i can not help those already afflicted with this pest. i can tell those that don't already have it... DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING, FROM THE INTERNET UNLESS YOU ARE 110% POSITIVE THAT YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND THE CONTENT IS SAFE!!! lest you end up like me, more viruses than i can handle on a computer desperately needed for home work. so good luck to everybody dealing with the Trojan horse. if i find a way of getting rid of my 45 infected files I'll let you all know.

smart-arse teen, Oz

Anyway, after running AVG, etc. be sure to empty recycle bin on your desktop before rebooting.

WELL GUYS THERE ARE ALOT OF REASONS WHY YOU CANT DELETE THE VIRUS OR TROJANS BUT THE MOST OF THE TIME PEOPLE CAN'T SEEM TO DELETE THE VIRUS...THEY WOULD DO A VIRUS SCAN WITH NORTON ANTI VIRUS 2005..AND WHEN YOU CLICK ON DELETE VIRUS AND SOMETIMES SOME VIRUSES WONT DELETE WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS MANUALLY DELETE THE VIRUS..SO CLICK ON THE VIRUS NAME IN NORTON AND IT WILL TELL YOU ITS LOCATION AND IF YOU CAN'T FIND THE FILE SOMETIMES ITS HIDDON SO DONT GET YOUR HOPES UP YOU DONT HAVE A VIRUS CAUSE YOU STLL DO..LETS SAY IF THE FILE WAS IN PROGRAM FILES YOU WOULD GO THERE AND IT WOULD SAY THAT THE VIRUS IS LOCATED IN C;/PROGRAMFILES/VIRUSFILE.EXE AND WHEN YOUR MANUALLY TRY TO FIND THIS FILE AND ITS NOT THERE SO IN THE ADDRESS IN THE WINDOW YOUR GONNA HAVE TO HIT /VIRUSFILE.EXE AFTER PRORAMS..I;LL TRY TO MAKE SENSE BUT SOMETIMES I CAN'T BECAUSE ITS HARD TO EXPLAIN IT OVER THE COMPUTER WHEN YOU KNOW EVERYTHING LOL...SO THE WINDOW WOULD LOAD AND THE VIUS FILE WOULD BE THERE DELETE IT IF IT SAYS UNABLE TO DELETE OR WHATEVER...YOU WOULD NEED TO CHECK YOUR TASKEMANAGER..AND END THE TASK OF WHATEVER FILE YOUR TRYING TO DELETE...MAKE SURE YOU DONT DELETE A WINDOWS RELATED FILE BECAUSE IF YOU DO IT COULD REALLY MESS UP YOUR COMPUTER BIG TIME AND THEN YOU WOULD HAVE TO REFORMAT IT..I HOPE THIS MESSAGE HELPS TTYL GUYS

you need to turn off system restore and delete it from your registry (Hkey) then turn system restore on again and it will be gone. Ising system restore to restore to an early date just hids the virsu but it is still there. Make sure not to delete the wrong ones.

hi, I've read all the advice but can't see my problem described exactly. I have run AVG and it detected no viruses, BUT about every couple of hours, usually when I've left the screen for a while, an error message from AVG sheild says trojan horse virus, you should run AVG. I do but once again nothing is detected but, again the error message habitually returns. What does this mean? What should I do? What are the dangers if I do nothing? please help!

I am using a relative’s computer and I desperately need to know how to get rid of my virus at home. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Here is my situation.

I, of course, have a Trojan Horse virus on my computer. The only frustrating part is my computer will only go on for about 5 minutes and then it restarts itself. So there is no way that I can run a system scan on my computer. In addition, it only turns itself off when I sign on to my name. Therefore, I am wondering what I need to do to get rid of this virus. I have the latest Norton System works disc by the way. I could really use some help here. Thank you.

I had Trojan Horse virus and got notified by my Norton Anti-virus. I tried getting rid of it through different means but did not succeed. Eventually I did a scan through my Norton Anti-virus, then put that infected file in the quarantine of the anti-virus and eventually from  there I could delete it. I was very relieved!!!

Norton Anti_ Virus protection is crap.  Dont keep it.  First get "Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition"(You might have to buy it but it is worth it)  Symantec is used by the government and is very very very good.

If you get Symantec AntiVirus protection....delete Norton, cause it will slow dowm your computer

Symantec will detect viruses, quarantine them so you can permanently delete them.  It also has a feature where you can "Live Update" and it will give you the latest Virus protection.  It is very much worth it.

I'vehad a Trojan horse. The way to get rid of it is to first run Norton System-works then scan your whole computer for viruses. After that if you do have a virus it should have that file shown in red. If it is a Trojan horse your screwed! HA HA HA HA HA HA :(  OXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

wowowo... calm down people and cherly. I HAD THE SAME PROB WITH MY COMPUTER: When you scan it dosnt find it, cant delete it, tells you to reboot or dose so by its self. Yes i have been there. The best thing to do is take it out your self. The trojan is usualy in your windows file on your hard drive as i think stated above. I should think one of those virus scanners would of found it, or what would be best is a spy where scanner. anyway. The scanner should tell you what file its upto in which folder. If you scanner pauses for a long time or your computer reboots (restarts), make a not of the location of the file of where its up to. AFTER THIS SHUT DOWN YOUR VIRUS SCANNER OR START YOUR COPUTER UP AND LOOK FOR THE FILE. If you find it is a picture, you should find when you right click on the file there will be an extra attachment to it. The best thing to do is delete the file and make sure when you delete something it dose not go to the recycal bin. (do this from the recycal bin).

Quick point, if you know the file name which you should you can look for it by going to the serch file program in your start menu. ALSO WHEN YOU DELETE THE FILE YOU MUST NOT OPEN IT AND SHOULD SEARCH AGAIN USING THE SEARCH PROGRAM FOR THE SAME FILE NAME; THIS IS BECAUSE YOU WILL FIND THE FILE CAN SREAD SOMEWHEAR ELSE.

p.s. i know this sounds comfusing but please try it because at the moment it may be the bst solution!!

ad-aware is gr8 for searching mind ;)

I know what it's like to have a trojan virus infecting your computer.  If I had been able to get my hands on whoever created it, I quite possibly would have killed the vermin.  But, anyhoo, why don't you try System Restore.  It worked for me.  I restored my system to how it had been the previous day, before I had been infected with the virus.  After doing this, the virus no longer existed (so far-I don't know enough about computers to be sure the problem has been completely solved).

I've read comments about the System Restore potentially restoring viruses.  I think that this would only be the case if the restore point was created after the virus had infected the computer.  What hasn't been said is that if you do as I've done before a restore point has, in effect, saved the virus to the hard drive, then I would think once you restore it to a previous date the virus wouldn't exist at all since it was never saved into the system.  So the key thing is to return to an earlier restore point BEFORE a new restore point is created WITH the virus still present on the hard drive.  Good luck.

I have avg and Mcafee The sad this is the i have been a hard core avg person for ahwile but it never detected it. I found it after I had got McAfee, it said could not delete nor heal. but i took the hard way on removing it through regedit. I have not removed the way others have said too. but i would try it and see if you don't know what you are doing through registry i would advise you to stay a way from from it. and go the easy way it may seem hard but it is quite easy.

yo dudes... to all who have viruses i am not amazing with computers and i got a trojan earlier today but i have found a very simple effective way to get rid of it! simply do this~:
1)hit the emergancy shut down or cut the power
2)leave the computer for bout 2 mins then start it up
3)it wil scan the computer lets it do this then go onto windows as usual
4)everytime you do this scan xp makes a record of the files it doesnt understand or cant read. they all end in chk
5)delete them all they are useless and the virus will be stored on them.dont worry the next time u do this you wil most likly have a whole new bunch they are just records
(warning)this worked well for me but!!! you must be extremly carful which one you delete they must end in (chk) nuthing else!!! these files you delete take up space and should realy be deleted anyway they serve no purpose except for salvaging!i hope it works as well for you as it did for me! warmest regards the rappin rabbi
ps(to anyone(never going to happen)those who find a problem with this little trick please say so so others dont make the same mistake)

Also, my computer told me that I have 3 infected files and that they were just left alone, my computer still works fine, but my computer will not let me quarentine or delete the files. What do I do?

I think you guys can try a antivirus called Kaspersky. It can find almost all the trojan horse virus, and then you can delete them manually.Sometimes it will remind you that you can't delete them, and ask you whether you wanna delete them when you restart the system.Choose yes, then your computer will be restarted, and the antivirus can delet them automaticly

I had that same problem.  It's very frustrating.  Here's how you fix it. Download McAffe Virus Scan. (You have to buy it).  Run the virus scan.  The only thing is, the retarded virus scan can detect the trojan, but it can't delete, quarentine, or clean the trojan.  (This is where McAffe makes their money).  You have to BUY a CHAT with a computer geek, who will load some software onto your computer, that will delete the virus.  Browse the McAffe site to find out how to get the chat with the computer geek.  Buy the PLATNUM or PREMIUM chat.  In other words, the most expensive one.  I know it's expensive but it'll get the job done.  Your stupid by the way, getting a trojan on your computer.  HA HA.  Other than getting McAffe, you could get the Earthlink Protection Control.  That'll do the job.  But I would go with McAffe.  Hope you get rid of it.

Anyone please help! I can't really solve my computer's virus problem on my own.  I am using an updated AVG free edition and I'm also using an updated spyware doctor.  I do regular pc scanning using these two softwares.  After weeks of efficiently using these softwares, my pc suddenly infected by a virus and I believe that it is w32 sality as based on the two softwares and also based from the web searching that I've done. I believe that spyware doctor could heal infected files and remove “wmimgr32.dll” file that is said to be a dll file affiliated with the virus but after I ran several applications, It would go back to the same folder which is previously was C:/windows/system32.  I also tried to use AVG.  AVG could also detect it and identify it also as sality and after scanning my pc, AVG prompted me that several exe files including regedit.exe,notepad.exe etc. are infected by the virus but it could not be healed. The log files shows that several files are infected but 0 files are healed. After it, AVG will start to disable my access to those exe files including several applications that I’m using including firefox.exe.  I had no choice but to uninstall the AVG using administrator account in safemode so I could use some applications.  I’ve also tried to clean my pc in DOS mode using AVG but files could also not be healed. An error message of “Cannot be cleaed. Insufficient information” just appeared.  And lastly, I tried to install again the AVG and after updating and running it, a virus detection messages appears but after selecting heal option, “Requested action is not available for this object” message just appears and again, disabling my access to whatever application that file is affiliated. Plese help!

Look its almost as simple as 1.2.3 all you need to do is turn off your windows restore points and download hijack.exe Spybot.exe and ad-aware se.exe use the programe then restart your computer and push F8 and start your windows up in safe mode use spybot first then use ad-aware se then use norton and then once again use hijack this one this is all done your windows should be clear as day. if this does not work try the procese again and then your computer will be fine.
Warning distroying any trojan can leave you windows dammage so you might have to do a windows repear because of the virus after shock!!

AVG doesn't get rid of trojan horse. that's what we are meant to believe that it has gone. Trojan horse is a virus that hides in your cookies and in depth places of your computers. a normal virus scan WILL NOT detect The trojan horse virus. It sits in depth and waits for a day when it can attack. I have the virus myself and it was sent to me via a picture transfer on MSN Messenger from my friend. He got it off a Porn Site which accidentally popped up. he didn't get the virus because he has Mcaffe virus protection plus plus. This blocked th virus and it just passed through his computer and onto mine. My Laptop's internet connection deteriarates every day because of the virus. you just have to hope for the best or take it to a pc clinic in PC World.

It sounds to me like you need to Format your pc. the bad thing is that everything on your pc will be lost, including the trogan, your pc will be clean from infection again after the format but dont go on the internet before beefing up your pc with some serious security. example: anti virus, anti spyware,: anti pop up, firewall, and other stuff.

This is because your pc  is vulnerable since it has no defense, and once your plugged in you will be infected with spyware.

formatting is and should be the last option, it will wipe out everything including your operationg system.

Dont depend on anti virus to much though, i will tell you why. Anti virus can only defend against what it can detect. thats why your supposed to update very often. If you asked a pro like me, anti virus only gives you about 50% or less protection because viruses and other malicious agents are born by the 100 thousand every day.

once you no your infected, shutting off that pc is important because it freezes the viruses processes. once you turn it back on, format

Is the Trojan horse related to Melaware and Cyberdefender or other virus protection services?
When I got the horse this came along very annoyingly, insisting I used them to get rid of trojan horse and my avg was not good enough. The Melaware also replaced my opening page. I rellied on my AVG (free). It vaulted one and today it detected 6 more and got rid of them.
Is Melaware and Cyberdefender the trojan carries or just the presence of trojan attracted them?

Seriously you people who get a new trojan "all the time" need to quite looking at PORN. Do you know what a trojan does? It sends your data "passwords and stuff" back to the hacker who then empties your bank account or messes up your companies network. Your utter display of little care about this makes me sick. I feel no remorse for you at all. My experience which is vast, says you don't have problems with viruses if you stay on legit sites. I have not had a virus in 3 yrs, and instead of spending my days with my hands down my pants and browsing the forums looking for ways to fix my virus problems, I instead enjoy my wife. BTW I am no bible bumper, I just have no respect for people who do not understand the dangers of viruses just to look at some porn they could buy a magazine for, rent a movie, or how about this PAY FOR IT.

anybody having trouble with viruses should download the free version of avg and also ad aware se and scan on a regular basis if you are a frequent internet surfer. also you could use zone alarm and spybot search and destroy. dont worry its ok to use more than one antivirus program so stock up on them. and if your in the market to buy some software then i suggest "fix it utilities 6 professional it has a feature that allows you to setup a scheduled time to scan so for all you lazy people that feel scan isnt to important it will scan automatically, good luck

to delete a trojan, firstly you must start your pc in either safe mode(usually by pressing f8,f9 or similar)repeatedly when you switch on your pc,or start in diagnostic mode(start>run, then type ms config).once your pc has started, run your virus scanner, and let it do the rest.

I got rid of it only by recovering my system, because the virus was attached to to the restore area of the programs. This seems to be akin to read-only material, which is untouchable by regular means. Before wiping everything out, I saved my stuff on discs; recorded everything that I needed to save or download again; and then suffered the all day job. I had to do this because the trojan allowed someone to alter my email address and intercept all my personal data.

ok. to solve elephant8503's problem, what you need to do is download "moveonboot." install this. it deletes whatever file you say before windows starts. if you know the file that the virus is in, set moveonboot to delete it the next time you reboot. there.. problem solved

Okay.....I have Windows home edition xp. I have AVG, and Ad-ware SE Personal , as well as Advanced System Optimizer.....One night my husband was online and he got a balloon that said " Updates now available " , as he has updated many times before , he clicked on the link and updated. The next night I was online looking up stuff for Paintshop pro and a Porn link came up on the computer and then immediatly following was a VIRUS DETECTED. We ran a search for the file name and found it and executed it. From then on out the popup'scontinued one, every few minutes. Every time a popup would appear , so did the VIRUS DETECTED . I spent three days working with my computer. I did the turn off system restore, reboot in safe mode and run a virus scan. It would show a box that the viruses was healed, but when the over all scan was complete this is what it said .

File Name : A0006797.exe
File Path : C:\System Volume info \ cestore( 7885AF-80PE-452A-ACAC-7F934B8EBAA)RP5\
Discovery: Trojan horsedownloader.Generic2.MUZ
Date of Discovery: 9/15/2006
Source Computer :Home HMEBKZZY4A
Finder : Administrator
File Size : 71.5 KB ( 73216 Bytes )
Healable : No
Source : Back up Copy
Status : Infected

This is pretty much how 90% of the viruses that came through looked like. I kept going into safe mode and deleating the file, but there was a few pesky ones that would not deleate at all....Me being the bright one I am started deleating files from that date from Search engine....Needless to say my internet does not work, and when I run my AOS ( Registry cleaner and fixer ) it takes two hours to complete when it used to only take 5 minutes....And my Adware remover takes about the same amount of time, but when the scan is complete it does not show what was found only that there is errors. Can any one plese help me figure this out ? I have followed all the standard procedures and can not get rid of them. Also how can I restore the missing files that are keeping me from uploading my media player and my p2p....Oh and one more thing, some of the viruses we are getting says " !update.exe " please help !!!

Hey All
It seems to me that E Patterson is our Trojan Horse Guru. You just have to remember to turn System Restore back on.
Refer to ksdusk  and Thank you also
Refer to Phyl on this forum for alternative and possibly more certain method...

Solution from Symantec:

Updated: August 17, 2006 01:02:51 PM PDT
Type: Trojan Horse
Infection Length: varies
Systems Affected: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

The following instructions pertain to all current and recent Symantec antivirus products, including the Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus product lines.

Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
Update the virus definitions.
Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected.
Delete any values added to the registry.
Edit the Win.ini file.
Edit the System.ini file.
Clear the Temporary Internet Files folder.

For specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

1. To disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP)
If you are running Windows Me or Windows XP, we recommend that you temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file on your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

For instructions on how to turn off System Restore, read your Windows documentation, or one of the following articles:
How to disable or enable Windows Me System Restore
How to turn off or turn on Windows XP System Restore

Note: When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed, reenable System Restore by following the instructions in the aforementioned documents.

For additional information, and an alternative to disabling Windows Me System Restore, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: Antivirus Tools Cannot Clean Infected Files in the _Restore Folder (Article ID: Q263455).

2. To update the virus definitions
Symantec Security Response fully tests all the virus definitions for quality assurance before they are posted to our servers. There are two ways to obtain the most recent virus definitions:
Running LiveUpdate, which is the easiest way to obtain virus definitions: These virus definitions are posted to the LiveUpdate servers once each week (usually on Wednesdays), unless there is a major virus outbreak. To determine whether definitions for this threat are available by LiveUpdate, refer to Virus Definitions (LiveUpdate).
Downloading the definitions using the Intelligent Updater: The Intelligent Updater virus definitions are posted daily. You should download the definitions from the Symantec Security Response Web site and manually install them. To determine whether definitions for this threat are available by the Intelligent Updater, refer to Virus Definitions (Intelligent Updater).

The latest Intelligent Updater virus definitions can be obtained here: Intelligent Updater virus definitions. For detailed instructions read the document: How to update virus definition files using the Intelligent Updater.

3. To scan for and delete the infected files
Start your Symantec antivirus program and make sure that it is configured to scan all the files.
For Norton AntiVirus consumer products: Read the document: How to configure Norton AntiVirus to scan all files.
For Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise products: Read the document: How to verify that a Symantec Corporate antivirus product is set to scan all files.
Run a full system scan.
If any files are detected, take note of the file names, and click Delete.

If the infected files are detected in the \Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5, due to the design of the operating system, you will not be able to delete them. Write down the entire path and file name and clear the Temporary Internet Files Folder at the end of the removal instructions.

Important: If you are unable to start your Symantec antivirus product or the product reports that it cannot delete a detected file, you may need to stop the risk from running in order to remove it. To do this, run the scan in Safe mode. For instructions, read the document, How to start the computer in Safe Mode. Once you have restarted in Safe mode, run the scan again.

After the files are deleted, restart the computer in Normal mode and proceed with the next section.

Warning messages may be displayed when the computer is restarted, since the threat may not be fully removed at this point. You can ignore these messages and click OK. These messages will not appear when the computer is restarted after the removal instructions have been fully completed. The messages displayed may be similar to the following:

Title: [FILE PATH]
Message body: Windows cannot find [FILE NAME]. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

4. To delete the value from the registry
Important: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified subkeys only. For instructions refer to the document: How to make a backup of the Windows registry.

Click Start > Run.
Type regedit
Click OK.

Note: If the registry editor fails to open the threat may have modified the registry to prevent access to the registry editor. Security Response has developed a tool to resolve this problem. Download and run this tool, and then continue with the removal.

Navigate to the subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrenVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run

In the right pane, delete any value that refers to a file that was detected during the scan.

Exit the Registry Editor.

5. To edit the Win.ini file
WARNING: The following steps instruct you to remove the text from the run= line of the Win.ini file. If you are using older programs, they may load at startup from one of these lines. If you are sure that the text contained in these lines is for the programs that you normally use, then we suggest that you do not remove it.

If you are running Windows 95/98/Me, follow these steps:

Click Start > Run.
Type the following:

edit c:\windows\win.ini

and then click OK.

(The MS-DOS Editor opens.)

NOTE: If Windows is installed in a different location, make the appropriate path substitution.

In the [windows] section of the file, look for a line similar to:

run=[TROJAN FILE NAME]

Note: [TROJAN FILE NAME] refers to the file name detected during the scan.

If this line exists, delete everything to the right of run=

Click File > Save.
Click File > Exit.

6. To edit the System.ini file
If you are running Windows 95/98/Me, follow these steps:
Click Start > Run.
Type the following:

edit c:\windows\system.ini

and then click OK.

(The MS-DOS Editor opens.)

NOTE: If Windows is installed in a different location, make the appropriate path substitution.

In the [boot] section of the file, look for a line similar to:

shell = Explorer.exe [TROJAN FILE NAME]

Note: [TROJAN FILE NAME] refers to the file name detected during the scan.

If this line exists, delete everything to the right of Explorer.exe.

When you are done, it should look like:

shell = Explorer.exe

Click File > Save.
Click File > Exit.

7. To clear the Temporary Internet Files folder, if required
Log on to the computer using the name that was shown in the path that you wrote down in the scan and delete infected files section.

For example, if the path was:

C:\Documents and Setting\Linda\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\qrwmqczd.dll

log on to the computer as Linda.

Start Internet Explorer.
Click Tools > Internet Options.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button.
Check Delete all offline content, and then click OK.

I have a Trojan Horse on my PC, but my Norton is expired. I ended up panicking and downloaded about 3 other anti-virus programs, but only after I found out about the Trojan Horse. Will I be able to fix it? And is there a key sequence (for example: ctrl+alt+delete) to put the computer in safe mode?

To remove a Trojan, you simply have to format the drive were you have the WINDOWS installed.
To format a drive you must have a bootable floppy disk or a bootable cd. Enter the disk, restart your computer and enter BIOS by pressing the [del] key while the WINDOWS starts. In the BIOS you have to set in the Advanced BIOS Features to boot from CD or from Floppy, depending on what you use to format; you'll surely find it! After that, press F10 to save and exit.
Now the computer will restart. And at a moment it will say: press any key to boot from floppy or CDrom. You have to press a key and then easily format the drive were you have the WINDOWS installed and simply reinstall it.
Try it! I use this every time I have a trojan or other kinds of viruses.
I hope it helps...

I would just like to give many thanks to 'phyl'. He is a genius! follow his instructions, no need to download anything!...This is what he said to do:

My computer is now absolutely FREE of these pests!

hope this helps...Phyl

ps. I also have AVG 6.0 (the free one) & also the Ad-aware 6 and I use them every day as my kids love to play games from the Internet.
....

I would just add to that by saying..if you had the same virus as me and had files install themselves to your desktop one of them with the name of 'Two'which won't delete instead of going onto search all you need do is delet it from the desktop. I also used my mouse and it work the same

Good luck peeps..I will keep looking on here and if you have any problems still...add me on msn or email me at : SunnehJim@hotmail.co.uk

[With caps]-hope i can help..

Whenever I run AVG anti virus, Symantec (which I had forgotten to uninstall) then picks up a bunch of temp files as a trojan horse or trojan dropper file and quarantines.  Any thoughts anyone.  It only happens when AVG runs so I am thinking it is infected!

Simply disconnect your infected harddrive and reconnect it to another computer using the CD ribbon connector and power plug. Turn on the good computer and scan your harddrive (connected to CD port)with the antivirus on that machine (hopefully AVG or Norton. Your problems are over.

i too got infected by trojan horse. i got it a few days ago and i dont know wat to do. i use mcafee antivirus and i've found which file is infecting my computer but when i wanted to delete it or clean it or even quarantine it, it said something like i couldn't do it. I tried deleting the file itself, but it wouldn't work. i'm scared it will infect my computer even worse and i want to stop it before it gets worse. is there any other way than reformating the laptop because i really think it will be too much of hassle to have all my files gone. please, if you have any answers please help me here!

Peoples, we usually get Trojan horse by down- loading stuff on the Internet and they can spread on your computer and harm, only if u open it, so before u open it, u should scan the file before opening it. This is not 100% but it will help alot!

i have what seems to be a trojan horse virus on my computer. i got avg free version and did the scan it found 19 infected files and deleted about 9/10 of them so i did the scan again and it found a few more but didnt delete all of them. why doesnt it just delete the trojan horse off all the infected files.

also the virus has slowed my computer down ALOT  i cant link anything to the internet, none of my desktop folders/programs will open  when i double click on them and a small file keeps appearing in my recycle bin.    i really dont know what to do because it doesnt sound the same as any of the other descriptions people have put on.

When your computer got attack by trojan, virus or worm the best thing to do is format the computer.  Removing those with anykind of antivirus or spyheal might be fast but not save.  Sometimes you might get a very strong one and let part of it escape from you scanning and it can harm your computer over time.

A trojan is not always harmful, but if it is, first of all do not download more than one anti-virus in one time.  This causes the anti-viruses to work not the way they have to.  Consequently download only 1 anti-virus at a time.  If you have a clear idea from which program the trojan entered your pc just delete the program completely.  To remove the program completely just enter the control panel, go to add or remove icon, find the program you want to remove and remove it from your har disk.
