Males are sexually mature at 6 months of age and will breed anytime. Females can only breed when they are in heat. The first time a dog goes into heat can be at 6 months of age( which is too young), over a year, or anywhere in between. The signs of going into heat are swelling of the vulva(sometimes to three times its normal size), vaginal bleeding, and possible increase of urination. Of course the males will be interested in her too. If she shows these signs it will be 1-17(average 9) days before she will let a male breed her. Pregnancy lasts 58-66 days.
