I've owned 4 mini'so far. My first one Oscar was a male and he would piddle everywhere even on the bed but only if my husband just got up, once while he was laying. The second one "lill" Girl my baby would go outside even would ask too, if she felt like it depending on the weather. she never left my-side, both were mine since babies. The 3rd Daisy was older than a year when i got her, she wouldn't go out she was trained so wrong. My new baby The Fith Element of Chaos & Destruction, also known as "Elle" for short, she is a work in progress i got her at 8 weeks she is now 4 months. My brat will potty only if i am not looking or go in another room. slowly she is catching on that outside means outside.  The one thing i have learned about this breed is the have a mind of there own, and they use it they get stuck in there own ways bad or good and once they do good luck on correcting it i have tried and failed 98% of the time.

My Mini Dachshund, Kiba, is now 8 mouths old and is about 80% house broken. My Grandparents raised Dachshunds and they tough me the only way to brake them is by having them on a strict schedule. When I take him out every two hours and when I'm not there leave him in a crate I'm fine. I just forget. Don't think I'm too hard on him because he is curled up in my lap rate now. How to make sure they go out side is to set them out and watch them. If they do not go within 5 minuets or so crate them for 15 minuets, about. It's not a punishment. Its just safely waited until they have to go. repeat the proceager until they know. You have to be from on this. The crate thing wont last long and as yourtrust grows you can extend the time between potty brakes.

When I got Taylor she was two months old, we lived in a small appartmen and she would go EVERYWHERE. Never on the poddy pads only when we were around. But we recently moved in to a house and we honestly havent had any problems at all with her. We leave the back door open for her, and she goes in and out all day long all by her self. She is now 9 months old

We have 4 mini's...the oldest, lily, was trained to go outside immediately as a puppy, and now the only accidents she has is in emergencies and always in the bathroom, like she knows thats what its for....the next one, bell, does good too, she was trained some on paper at first, but that didn't last long at our house, now she goes outside fine....the third lucy is actually the oldest, she is adopted, and she came trained and has never had a problem adjusting to the new home, the baby, reece, is trained on the puppy pads, BIG mistake, she uses them but we step on them and they are always in the way, and now we can't figure out how to switch her, every time we try she gets confused.....my advice, always train to go outside ASAP, no paper or pad mess, its just more trouble later....

If you give your mini dachshund a treat every time she use bathroom outside and also give her positive verbal reinforcement she then learning going outside is a good thing she will start to look forward to get the treats keep in mind that for every treat you give her must she must also get positive verbal reinforcement to than as you get her to use outside slowly stop giving her treats but do keep up the verbal reinforcement when she go to the bathroom inside the house than put her inside the create do not inter act with for a few minutes. then take her out when you take her out of the create make sure that she gos right outside right away this should help ok.

Form the first day we got ours home alil over a year agao, I can honestly say there has been no more than a couple dozen times she has gone outside of the kitchen pad.
You must keep her locked in Kitchen when your not home with pad....Yes, they do have a mind of their own, yet, are always willing to play fetch and tug of war her favorite plastic newspaper. Never thought a dog could have so much personality and be so lovable. Only problem we have is wife can never be alone on couch, cause da pooch is their with her.....Must be something about the wife sneaking her some chicken orlQQking.

I have a four year old mini. Her name is Misty. I have only had her for about a year, but she has been very good about breaking old habits. Her previous owners never trained her right so she would go all over the house and think nothing of it. I put her around my mothers two dogs both of which are very potty trained, it took her about three months to really catch on to the whole going outside thing, but she has finally got it. She is even starting to ask to be let out. I think being around the other dogs helped a lot and a lot of reinforcement also helps. She will still go in the house but only when we ignore her signals of needing to be let out. I say just keep reinforcing the outside thing and maybe put her around other dogs that can help her out. She may also need to be let out for about 30mins right before you go to bed so that she can make it through the night without getting up and going on your carpet. My dogs all go out right before bed time and all make it through the night.

The worst mistake any one can make on potty training is the puppy pads. By doing this its telling your dog it's okay to potty in the house.Try taking her outside and telling her to go potty if she happens to go outside reward her with a treat. Keep repeating this. It worked on all 6 of my doxies. Puppy pads just look to much like carpet.
