I have a fuel injected 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It used to start without using gas pedal, but now it cranks and cranks. I have to pump the pedal and then hold it to the floor until it finally starts. Once its warm it starts like normal. Every morning is a nightmare! Help!

Try cleaning the idle air motor, a little device on the intake that admits air to the engine during start-up and idle.  Pushing down the accelerator has the same effect - allows air in to the intake manifold.  Remove all the intake air ducting and try spraying carb cleaner into the intake while the engine is running.  It might work, or you might have to remove the idle air motor and clean (use the carb cleaner).  Its easy - I've done it several times.

I had a similar problem with my 97 Grand Cherokee. The problem was a bad bypass valve on the fuel pump. It was $600 (parts and labor) to replace the fuel pump. I thought about doing it myself but the pump is inside the gas tank so I thought I would leave it to the pros.

I am having the same problem right now w/ my 97 Jeep Grand Cheroke. It's in the shop as we speak. God only knows how much it is going to cost. I would try a Fuel Pump.. I heard there around 250.00!

Simple solutions are often over-looked. Gas filter, dirty fuel clogging injectors, air filter, spark plugs, starter wearing out, solenoids, relay switches and so on...look to these things first and it may solve your problem.

My 97 Grand Cherokee stalled while on the highway.  We were able to get it started and got it home.  Came to find out, the problem is with the fuel pump.  Price quoted to repair was 350.00 dollars for part and 435.00 dollars for labor.  What next?

I have starting problem with my 1995 grand cherooke. when crank it attempted to start, then die, but when started it will run without any problem. This behavior is consistant.  Spark good. Is it the fuel pump? Remember it never stalled when it started.www/ms1signal@hotmail.com

sounds like the same problem i had. swapped out the fuel pump and now its running fine again. to change the pump truly isn't that hard.  the most difficult part was finding a socket deep enough to fit the bolts to drop the tank all it is is 2 bolts, disconnect the 2 hoses leading front eh gas tank to the filler door and disconnecting 2 or three wire harness clips
