My Dachshund, Sibbie, had that problem for a while as a puppie.  What I found is that she would make a 'present' then either hide or eat it, and the smell would go away after her next feeding.

She doesn't do this anymore, because my 4 year old sheepdog barks like a mad banshee is Sibbie gets near a fresh 'present.'

My puppy had this problem, I had to take her to the vet to get the glands emptied out.  I only had to do this once and then I fed her high fiber food and have not had the problem since.

I use to groom, it is not a dachshund problem, all dogs have anal glands and vets will charge you to surpress it. It is simple put your dog in the tub, wear a pr. of gloves feel around the outside of their rectum and you will feel two small lumps squeeze them . A brownish stinky discharge will come out. Wash well afterwards. Alot of dogs drag their butt across the floor and people think it is a sign of worms, but sometimes their anal gland bothers them. This will help them.

to take care off skin problems just ask your vet to administer the puppy 1/8 off a cc of a comercial vaccine for treating skin parasites the name is {IVOMEC}.This will help.

THIS IS A QUESTION,  I HAVE A DASHAND THAT I NEED TO PUT UP FOR ADOPTION.  I AM ABOUT TO HAVE MY FOURTH CHILD IN JUNE AND MY HUSBAND WILL BE AWAY FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF, AND JENNA IS JUST TOO HIGH MAINTANCE FOR A RENTAL.  BECAUSE OF ALL THE UNEXPECTED PIDDLING.  I WAS TOLD THIS IS A TRAIGHT IN DASHANDS THAT DOESN'T ALWAYS GO AWAY.  SHE REALLY IS KID FRIENDLY AND LIVES WITH ANOTHER DOG A LAHSA/LAB MIX.  WE JUST NEED TO GIVE HER TO SOMEONE WHO CAN GIVE HER THE ATTENTION SHE NEEDS.  UNFORTUNATELY MY CHILDREN ARE STILL TOO YOUNG TO TAKE ON THE RESPONSIBLITY THEMSELVES.  SHE IS A GREAT LAP DOG WHEN SHE IS RELAXED SHE CAN FETCH AND LOVES TO PLAY HIDE AND SEEK WITH HER TOYS.  IT'S JUST WHEN SHE HEARS A NOISE OR YOU UNEXPECTLY TRY TO PICK HER UP SHE WILL PIDDLE.  WE EVEN CRATE TRAINED HER AND ONLY USE THE CRATE AT NAP TIME FOR MY SON AND AT NIGHT TIME FOR BED.  SHE LIKES HER CRATE, BUT WE WISH SHE COULD ALWAYS BE OUT LIKE OUR OTHER DOG.  I JUST DON'T THINK THAT SHE WILL GET THE ATTENTION SHE NEEDS WITH ME TAKING ON A NEWBORN AND MY HUSBAND BEING GONE WHO IS USUALLY A HUGHE HELP WITH THE DOGS.  MY HUSBAND IS IN THE MILITARY.  JENNA HAS ALL HER SHOTS HAS PAPERS OF HER FAMILY AND IS PRETTY HEALTHY.

I have five dachshunds and three of them are one month old they are very playful but every time I hold one they pee on me and so we take them outside. the problem with the smell is that if you take her outside and she rolls in something dead or anything like that you will have the problem with the smell again ao try an keep an eye on her while she is outside.

it sounds like her anal glands need to be cleaned out by a vet.  you may have to do this every few months to keep her comfortable. she may "scoot" her butt across the carpet when it irritates her. and you can tell the difference between a dirty coat and the anal gland smell, trust me.

Yes, you must have their anal glands cleaned out, and we feed our 4 minies a little pumpken with every meal for the fiber content and things seem to be working fine so for. We have had out dogs for 4 years, and we love them.

My dog had the same problem, you need to take your dog in and get his anal glands "expressed" every so often. If not it could case serious health problems (i.e. the gland could rupture and poison him/her)

our jasmine had the same problem with loosing her hair. Her tail and one leg was completely bald. Our vet tested her for alergies but couldn't offer any solution. We decided to change her food to alergy formula food and her problem has cleared up.

Give the Dog a diet high in Flax for nice fur. Also stick to wet food which has NO Animal byproducts. Those are expensive but good. Organic is the way to go. My owner takes good care of me.
