What physical changes should I see with my Female Yorkie during her heat duration?  Is there natural swelling?  How long can I expect her to be in heat?

You should expect swelling. My little one usually is in heat for a little over a week with minimal amount of bleeding. But each one differs. I hope that helped.

My girl had swelling and she stayed in heat for 12 days. There was a show of blood then clear liquid but you couldn't tell she was in heat after the bloody show. She kept herself very clean.

My girl is in heat now and has been for 7 days now.  She keeps herself very very clean and is showing blood.  She was very swollen last week and sore.  This week isn't as bad but still has bleeding and some swelling.  I see most dogs are in heat 3 to 4 weeks on average.  Is this the same with Yorkies?  How long should I expect her to be in heat?

My little princess has started spot bleeding today. Can someone tell me if this indicates the start of the heat or if she could be somewhere in the middle.  She has been acting odd the last few days, humping everything in site, and constantly cleaning herself.

Thanks!
Sandy

My Yorkie is just now going into heat for the second time. I have noticed both times she is extremely tired and will not eat or drink as usual for the first couple of days. After that she slowly starts getting back to normal bleeding for about one to two weeks. Does anyone know if you choose to breed when the best time is to introduce a male? Can they get pregnant anytime during the heat cycle? Thanks.

I am a scientist, well a home wannabe at that. Within my research I have witnessed minimum swelling. The amount of blood varies.

My little one has been swollen for approximately four days and keeps herself extremely clean. We have spotted some little blood stains here and there but small enough to remove with stain cleaner. I have been told that this should only last just under a week. It was suggested to use diapers but I just can't justify this as it might cause other problems.
