Do the squiggly designs on the tops of store bought fine chocolate candy relate to what is contained in the center of the chocolate candy (butter cream, caramel, etc.)?

Traditionally they do.  Hand-dipped and fine quality machine dipped chocolates pass through a decorating station, where a distinctive swirl, which might even be a different color, is individually applied to each piece.  How do they keep them separate?  Well, they are only making one center at a time on any given production line, so they will make just butter creams for a while, just fondant for a while, and so on.  I do not know whether the decoration pattern is traditionally the same for chocolates from different companies.
