I have a 1-1/2 yr old shih-tzu who is in heat. I was told by a friend that she heard that you should not give dogs in heat a bath. I don't know how true this is. I just got her a month ago and my other dog is a male. Help:)

I'm not sure if this is dangerous or not but it's better to be safe than sorry so just wait to give her a bath. Her heat probably won't last any more than 2 1/2 weeks and you're only supposed to give dogs about 1 bath a month so it's not too long to wait.

Do you take a bath when you are on your period? Does it hurt you? And isn't waiting one month to give your dog a bath kinda like waiting seven months in people time? But I'm sure you have some scientific proof and your poor shih-tzu will die.

On the contrary, shih tzus must be bathed more often than other dogs because they have "hair" and not "fur"--in my experience, bathing my shih tzu once a week (not forgetting conditioner) keeps her long hair unmatted and healthy.
