Hemp has already been used to make boats.  An example is a row boat.  Some test boats made from hemp have been shown at the Helsinki boat show in Finland.

Why Not?
The hemp fibers have long proven to be strong and durable. It has been cultivated world wide for decades, legally, or otherwise.
Countries, such as Amsterdam, Which cultivate it completely legally, Have a lot of material which could be exported world-wide.
Not all hemp strands actually contain the Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, the active chemical in marijuana Which allows for the euphoric state of mind. Cannabis sativa is the only one.
Not only could the the fibers be used for this application, but also for endless others. It is versatile, cheap, strong and has not yet been exploited!
The resin material needed in the production of fiberglass construction will still work on hemp fiber, it will work on ANY fibre.
So in short, YES you can use hemp fiber to replace fiberglass in the production of boats...

I am interested to read your comments on the use of hemp fibres replacing fibreglass, especially in boat building.
I am currently laminating some wood for a bent wood frame for a bench. I was originally intending to use glassfibres as reinforcement but am now considering hemp fibres as a more environmentally friendly solution.
Do you know of anywhere that I can buy these types of fibres in the UK?
Any help would be gratefully received.
