To Jamaicans, reggae has two distinct meanings: first, it is a generic term for all popular Jamaican music, and more particularly, it refers to specific beat and style popular from about 1969 to 1983. Rasta forms the base of reggae music, the vehicle that artists such as Bob Marley used to spread Rasta thought all over the world. This indigenous music grew from ska, which had elements of  American R&B and Caribbean styles. It also drew from folk music, Pocomania church music, Jonkanoo fife and drum bands, fertility rituals, adaptations of  quadrilles, plantation work songs, and a form called mento. It was Bob Marley who made reggae into an international phenomenon. In the wake of his success in the 1970s came a host of other names, and it wasn't long before reggae became an established genre of music. But reggae was simply the growth, the development, of what had been happening in Jamaican music.Beginning with ska, and then rock steady, the loudest island in the world had declared its real musical independence, and had already made an imprint on the world, albeit a small one.

Music has been an important factor in the lives of all the Jamaicans. This is because Jamaica which just began as a free country put together their mix of beats called reggae. Reggae is an African, Carribean style of music, that was developed on the island of Jamaica. Reggae is a mix of Jamaican style of traditional music and American rhythm and blues. Bob Marley was one of the first big names from reggae.  The style of reggae he made famous was a type of reggae called roots reggae or rock roots reggae. It is still used by many artists from the UK. Reggae was created in between the 1950's to the 1960's. In the 1970's reggae began to become popular in North America. All reggae is, is a unique style of beats and a singer going with the rhythm of the song. With instruments such as drums, bells, acoustic guitars, and xylophones.

Bob Marley started of Reggae music in the 1970’s. It was

made in the 50’s and 60’s it wasnt’t popular until the 80’s.

Reggae is a unique style of beats with a singer singing with

the rhythm of the song.

After Bob had started with his music other people copied

the same type of music he was doing, and it became very popular.

Reggae music is founded upon it’s rhythm style. Reggae music

Is very closely linked to religion Rastafarianism.

reggae is a style of music developed in jamaica around the 1960's reggae may be used in a broad sense to refer to most types of jamaican music including dub, rocksteady, ska, dancehall and ragga. raggae came from the era of jazz in the orchestras. its synchopated beats are 2 and 4and the bass guitar is strongly heard.the vocal line is also quite syncopated and the lyrics are usually about dancing, love, life and drugs. theyre a few chords in reggae and was popularized by bob marley in the 1970's.
