Is your vet familiar with chihuahuas? If not, I would advise finding a vet that is.

UNCOMPENSATED UNSOLICITED PLUG

I use Banfield pet hospitals which are located all over the US.  They have a fine reputation, and also have payment plans where you can pay one fee and all your pet's shots, exams, spay or neuter, etc. are covered.  It ends up costing about 1/2 what it would to pay as you go, plus there's no worry about office call fees so you can take your pet in as often as you want.

END OF PLUG

How long have you had her, and how long has this been going on.  Does she urinate normally?

Does she hold her bowel movements until they get packed in, or is she OK for a while after the vet cleans her out?  Chihuahuas can be stubborn and may not want to go outside.  I live in MN so both of my girls are litter box trained starting at 2 months.

I found that canned food gave both my girls the trots, so they eat only dry kibbles.  You don't mention what you've tried, but perhaps canned food would help move things along?  I can't recommend moist or packeted foods, what keeps them moist is a high sugar content, something a chihuahua does not need.

Rather than throwing out food you've bought but changed her from, please consider donating the rest of the bag, unopened cans, etc. to you local humane society or shelter.

Good luck and let us know what happens, since that helps me give better advice in the future.

This is only the advice of one chihuahua owner, it does Not replace that of a certified veterinarian.

Hello,
My siamese cat has this problem. She has to go to the vet every 3 months or so to get "relieved". The vet has to insert his fingers inside and pop the plugged gland. This cannot be prevented, they're born with it... I feed my cat softened 100% pure pumpkin (a laciative for cats) or try mixing vaseline in with some wet food. It softens the stool, which makes it less painful for them to go to the bathroom.
