How does one adjust the  Volvo 850 driver seat to avoid and stop hip and leg muscle pain on the right of a 5 feet 6 inch body?  I've tried multiple adjustments on a daily basis.  The pain is persistent.  Volvo.com has not provided a direct response nor has its reps commented yet since 01/02/04 inquiry.  Thank you.

Look elsewhere for the problem. I am 5feet 6 inch and have no problem in my 850 estate.

I have the same problem with my 850 GLT.  I cannot get the back to move up straight enough, and as such always have to lean back when driving or suffer from back pain.

The seats in the 850 are orthopaedically designed for the average back. It is possible that either 1. you are severely overweight 2. you drive too fast over very bad roads, 3. you have to adjust the lumbar support or 4. there is something wrong with your back.

you might want to consult a doctor

THE SEAT IS DESIGN SIMPLE THE WRONG WAY. YOU CANNOT FIX IT WITH AN ADJUSTMENT.

Well My Mom has the same problem I mean exactly the same problem. I guess she pulls the lever under her seat to back up the whole seat from the petal and slowly relieves the pain from her hip as she pushes back from her waist. She has a white Volvo 850 and she actually is a doctor! Thats all the advice I can provide for now and tell me how that works out.

Try flatening the seat out and moving the stearing wheel down and towards you more. You should sit with a small bend in your arms at your elbows-- away from the steering wheel. Also, becuase, of how the 850 is desgined you most likely can not reach the stereo and climate control without moving forward... This normal. Futhermore, pains as you describe usually stem from pressure on a nerve on the under-side of your thigh, try removing a wallet or any weight that might be pushing on your thigh.

Do you carry your billfold in your right back pocket?  Is it thick?  Try moving it to the other side or remove it while driving.  Sitting on a billfold can compress the sciatic nerve and cause pressure points enough to inhibit blood flow to the leg, causing pain or numbness.
