It is not recommended to breed your little ones more than twice a year as their body needs that time to recover from the trauma
of giving birth, caring for their young and watching them go to new homes. All these factors take a toll on your female and if you aren't just a breeder but want to keep them healthy you should consider their health. The pups born in their latter years may be affected as  well. In the wild a dog comes into heat usually once a year. I was once told they aren't affected by the placing of their young. That was not right as I watched a young female howl for hours after her young were gone. All these factors should be considered in breeding.Their bodies need care for their nurturing of the future pups as well as themselves.

I have been told you should skip a "heat" in between breeding.  I have also been told it is not good to breed on the first heat.  Their bodies are still developing and could possibly cause complications for mom or pups!

our jack russel is 8 months old and just began spotting; is that early?  she is also very small for her breed and i don't know if i should be giving her any extra vitamins during this time.  her dog food is a very good brand, but does she need suppliments.  her mom also went into heat once a year so our pickle was one of a litter of 8.  how might that effect her?

I would say no because if it is a boy mating with the same girl the girl will probably have problems delivering the puppies.

I am the one who wrote about the jrt that won't let her stud anywhere near her, I forgot to add  I was sure to let 1 year (two heats) pass in between breedings each time.
