What happens if AC is applied to the input of a DC motor ?

Depending on what voltage you apply,say it is 240v, then you would blow the 13amp fuse and the D.C motor would just sit there and not do anything.This assuming the AC is put on the armature and not the field connections.If AC voltage is put on the fields the back emf would limit the current and nothing would happen unless the fields have shorts in in which case there will get hot.If however it is a universal motor it would run on both AC and DC.

1)The motor will run but the load consumed by the machine is reduced as in case of a.c reactance comes to play major part than resistance.
2)The armature is laminated as a standard but the field core is not,so eddy currents will induce which causes temperature to rise considerably and eventually it comes to the burn out of the machine.
