Sure. A normal cable is straight through. A crossover cross-connects pairs 2 and 3. You can buy adapters to implement the cross-over or cut off a plug and re-terminate it appropriately. If you want best speed I'd avoid the adapter approach. Especially for CAT5e.

Yep easily just get an rj45 jack and make it to the way that it says on the color code then crossover the other end and throw a rj45 end on the thing and make it around a foot or so i made one that fits on my keychain about 3" long
