what is the best varnish you can use.that gives the best protection for those miniatures that are handled alot.

If you are in the US look for Krylon brand clear spray, either the gloss or semi-gloss. Give your minis a couple of coats, and finish up with Testors Dullcoat.

If your figures are subject to repeated use you  will need to re-spray them once in a while.

I normally use a base of Testor'sGlossCote, followed by 2 to 3 coats of Testor'sDullCote. The GlossCote is harder when dry, but leaves a very shiny appearance which I don't care to have on my miniatures.
