My 8 week old chihuahua refuses to drink water. I've tried it in a dish and in a bottle hanging on the side of her play pen.
The only way I can get her to drink it is to mix it with her canned food.  Is this enough for her?  She has no problem drinking milk.
She just hates water.

At eight weeks, she should be in the process of being weened by her mother.  Ask your vet for milk replacement specifically designed for puppies.  She should be seeing a vet anyway so she can get started on her shots, but especially in this situation she needs to be tracked by a vet.

Start adding water to that and slowly reduce the amount of milk until the dish it just water.  When she gets thirsty enough, she will drink water.  Watch the level of the water closely, if she truly doesn't drink within 24 hours, she needs to go to the vet so she doesn't get dehydrated.

Are Chihuahua's a good pet? How big do they get to be? And is it good getting an eight year old Chihuahua?

A chihuahua can be a great pet.  I suggest you get the book Chihuahuas for Dummies, your library should have it or be able to get a copy through inter-library loan.  If, after you read the book, you can say "That's the dog for me" then go for it!  Chihuahuas take a lot of love, but they give a lot back.  I see no reason not to get an older chihuahua, they often live well into their teens, so you could be committed for up to a decade.

Chi's love milk as babies of course and yes ween them off later. They will drink if thirsty, if not, duh?
Vets are a good idea!
Mine were taken from mom too young but with alot of nurturing from you, they will be fine...are u remembering to give attention? If not please reconsider another owner with more time!?

My Chi was having the same problem, but once we got him to start eating dry food he started drinking his water. My vet told me that if his urine is still very yellow or he is still not drinking enough to try giving him unflavored pedialite. He might like the taste more and it will help to prevent dehydration.
