You have to be careful what you put in a tank.  There are certain things you can and cannot put in the tank.  My suggestion is next time you go to your Petstore tell them what you have in the tank and ask if it is possible to add whatever it is that you want to add.  There could be a multiple amount of things wrong with the combination of your fish and the snails.  The fish you have are also semi-aggressive fish, which isnt a very good idea to be putting all different species together.  And the size of your tank does help the factor, and the filter..there are so many things that could have been wrong.  Trust me, i work in a petstore, people come in all the time with these kind of questions.  Good Luck

snails carry many diseases as well as they effect the tropical natural slim coat...when the slim coat of a fish is damaged it can lead to many unsitefull disasters. remove snails at once .. maintain tank and prayer

The snails do multiply quickly and could have also had a disease as both of the above answers said. The Bala Sharks are a very sensitive species of fish (almost as sensitive as the Angel Fish) and he might have felt uncomfortable with the new addition to the tank. I wouldn't recommend snails to anyone with a regular aquarium. Plecostomas do the same if not a better job then sails, don't multiply as easily, and they are alot petter for the fish currently in your tank.

Depends on what type of snail it is. The best type of snail you can get are apple snails, aka. mystery snails. They breed by laying eggs at the top of the tank, which are easy to remove if not wanted.

joe santana is right and the easiest way to get rid of snails is to buy either clown loaches or batios they will take care of the snails.

maybe the snails were parasite snails , if they multiply take all but one out of the tank and put them in a smaller tank then you treat the SMALLER tank with snail killer.

If they are looking like they have a fungus (like cotton) get fungus guard otherwise if their fins look wrong try melafix.  I highly doubt it is the reproductive habits of snails since snails need a lot of algae to reproduce and time. The snails probably had a disease either on them or in the water that they came in.  Adding the snails could have stressed the fish enough to erupt something naturally in the water.  By the way how big is your tank and your cichlids?  Eventually they are going to outgrow the other fish and start getting territorial and attacking the other fish.

snails sometimes care small traces of salmanala and if you add too many a one time this with make you fish grow fungus and died soon after the best way to fix this is to do a 100% water change and wash every thing really good and then get some snail-be-gone at any retial pet supply store. i hope i could help you.
