Health consciously prepared food with less oil, and naturally colored with saffron, beet, cilantro, or carrot in place of commercial food colors. The $5.50 buffet (1995) is to die for! All you can eat includes at least 3 veggie dishes, naan, tikki or samosa, and raita. The Indian tea, Chai, is also very good (not vegan-but other choices remain). The owners, Sonny and Tanui, are very friendly, and make you feel at home. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, and the food is the best we've found in our area, at the best prices. There is plenty of rear parking. One can't go wrong dining at Bombay Gate. Open Mon-Sat 11am-10pm. Closed Sun. All you can eat buffet 11:30am-2:30pm. Acorn squash stuffed with orange, curried stuffing, steamed artichokes filled with tofu and mushrooms. Willing to accomodate special requests. Smoke-free. Open Mon-Sun for dinner. Mon-Fri for lunch. Van's International Foods, 20318 Gramercy Place, (310) 320-8611 - Distributer of eggless, dairyless, gluten-free, wheat-free, yeast-free, sugar-free waffles. They're absolutely delicious. Venice ------ Vegetarian Restaurants: Venus Of Venice, 302 Westminster (at Abbot Kinney), (310) 392-1987 - Vegan. Small, friendly. Quality food. Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants: Figtree Cafe, on Venice Boardwalk, Venice Beach - Good vegetarian selection on menu. Scenic. Crowded on weekends during summer. Bad parking situation. Au Votre Sante Miscellaneous: Farmer's market, Venice Avenue, near the beach - Fridays. West Covina ----------- Miscellaneous: Trader Joe's, 220 South Citrus, (818) 858-0408 - Excellent store with many quality, and often reasonably priced, natural foods store type items.
