Subject: 1.01 What is _Frasier_?
_Frasier_ is a television comedy based on the character "Frasier Crane" from
_Cheers_. Frasier has moved to Seattle, his home city, and is the host of a
talk radio psychology/advice program. His father, Martin, moves in with him
in the first episode, as does Daphne, Martin's physical therapist.
Frasier's brother Niles, also a psychiatrist, is a frequent visitor.

Subject: 1.06 How can I write to the cast?
(Name)
Paramount Pictures
5555 Melrose Ave.
Hollywood, CA 90038
USA
Subject: 1.07 When will _Frasier_ be in syndication?
Paramount is selling _Frasier_ to local stations for syndication starting
Fall 1997.
Subject: 1.08 How much longer will _Frasier_ be around?
NBC and Paramount recently worked out a deal to renew _Frasier_ for 3 more
seasons (through the 1999-2000 season). After that, the series may be
renewed again.
Subject: 2.01 Is there an episode guide?
Yes. The _Frasier_ Program Guide, written by Dean Adams, is available at:
ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/news.answers/tv/program-guides/
http://www.nyx.net/~dnadams/frasier.html
Included in the Program Guide are episode descriptions, guest cast and
caller listings, program notes, and more.
Subject: 2.02 Are there any WWW pages?
Yes, the URLs are
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~messina/frasier/
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~geena/frasier.html

[[ others? ]]
Subject: 2.03 Does anyone associated with the show read alt.tv.frasier?
Yes, more than one member of the _Frasier_ creative team reads and
participates in alt.tv.frasier, among them David Lee, a creator,
executive producer and director.
For this reason, story ideas should not be posted to this newsgroup. As a
rule, television producers do not accept unsolicited story ideas, and the
posting of story ideas to this newsgroup may cause them to stop reading it
for legal reasons.
Subject: 2.04 Is there a _Frasier_ mailing list?
Yes. To join, mail your Real Name and Subscription Address to
<Frasier-Admin@odetics.com>. They also have a WWW page at
http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~umstoro2/
Subject: 3.01 What kind of a dog is Eddie?
Eddie is a wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier. (Actually, Moose is a Jack
Russell Terrier. It is possible that Eddie is a different breed than the
dog who plays him.)
Subject: 3.02 What radio station is Frasier's show on?
Frasier works for KACL, 780 AM. Not-so-coincidently, the creators of
_Frasier_ are named (A)ngell, (C)asey, and (L)ee.
Subject: 3.03 Is Daphne aware of Niles's infatuation with her?
No, it would seem that she isn't. In "Roz in the Doghouse," Daphne says,
"Dr. Crane is always dropping by and bringing me little gifts and he's not
after anything."
Subject: 3.04 Does anyone have a list of Maris's quirks?
Yes. There is a list in the "Program Notes" Appendix of the _Frasier_
Program Guide. (See "Is there an episode guide?")
Subject: 3.05 What is the name of the coffee house that Frasier and Niles
frequent?
The coffee house is named Cafe Nervosa. "Nervosa" is a psychological term
meaning "the debilitating psychological addiction to an object, belief, or
behavior pattern." Seattle is known for its coffee houses, so the producers
decided that a coffee house would be a good non-work/non-home setting.
Subject: 3.06 Why is Frasier's dad alive on _Frasier_ when he was dead on
_Cheers_?
On _Cheers_, there were several references, one by Frasier's mother [[anyone
care to confirm that? I've never seen that episode]], that Frasier's father
was a scientist who had died. But in _Frasier_, he is a retired police
officer.
In the "The Show Where Sam Shows Up" episode, Frasier says that he told the
gang at Cheers that his father was dead because he and Martin had just had a
fight. When Martin asks Frasier why he told them he was a scientist,
Frasier responds, "What did it matter? You were dead!"
Apparently, the creators decided that _Frasier_ would be a better show with
Frasier's dad than without him.
Subject: 3.07 Why aren't the places that the characters visit really places in
Seattle?
Real places (generally) aren't used so that if the owner/manager/etc. is
portrayed negatively, it is not a real person. If Frasier were to visit a
real restaurant and then complain about the service, the show would be
slighting a real establishment and opening the door for legal action.
Subject: 3.08 What is latte?
From: Dave Oberman
You take a tall glass (or a big cup), dump in a shot of espresso (or two,
for a double latte), and fill it to the top with steamed milk.
Subject: 3.09 What is a "bwat"?
From: Kenneth Chidi Anyadike
Literally translated, "boite" (the i should have a circumflex) is French for
"box." "Boite" is usually a term to describe a small place (e.g. coffee
house) one feels comfortable in.
Subject: 3.10 What was the deal with the magnifying glasses in the tag scene
of one episode?
The tag scene of [[which episode was it?]] featured the characters sitting
on the couch and looking at something through magnifying glasses. According
to David Lee, they were trying to read the credits, which are squeezed into
the right-most one-third of the screen on NBC.
Subject: 3.11 What breed is Niles's Maris-like dog?
The consensus among alt.tv.frasier dog aficionados is that Girl is a
Whippet.

Subject: 5.01 Has anyone from _Cheers_ (besides Frasier) appeared on
_Frasier_?
Yes, Lilith has appeared in 4 episodes. Sam Malone visited and updated
Frasier on the ongoings of the _Cheers_ gang. Diane Chambers also visited,
(in addition to appearing briefly in Frasier's dream in an earlier episode).
Subject: 5.02 Is Jane Leeves's accent real?
She really has an English accent, but it's not Daphne's.
Subject: 5.03 Has anybody noticed that the guest callers are famous people?
Yes. The guest callers are listed in Dean Adams's _Frasier_ Program Guide.
(See "Is there an episode guide?")
Subject: 5.04 What does "Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs" mean?
From: David Lee
Its been fun watching the different theories regarding the meaning of
"Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs" pop up over the last few years. I don't
think "Hamlet" has been as closely scrutinized or more divergently
interpreted.
Here is what I (and the songwriters and other two creators of the show)
thought it meant when we decided on it.
Hey baby I hear the blues a'callin'
play on words: He's got the blues and referencing that he takes phone
calls
Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs
mixed up people who call in
And maybe I seem a bit confused
Well, maybe, but I got you pegged
the core of Frasier's character: He is a nutcase himself much of the
time, but can analyze the problems of others
But I don't know what to do with those
Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs
except these damn callers
They're callin' again
they're calling again
Subject: Another analysis
From: Bill Jennings
Here's my Personal Theory (tm) as to the meaning behind the _Frasier_ theme.
What do tossed salad and scrambled eggs have in common? They are both
things that, once made, can't be unmade. As the Gershwin song goes, "You
Can't Unscramble Scrambled Eggs".
While the phrase can be applied to Frasier's callers, I think it has more to
do with his family and friends. Frasier has put himself into a situation
that he can't get out of. Sort of like tossed salad and scrambled eggs.
Subject: 5.05 Did you know that Kelsey Grammer performs the theme song?
Yes. It's in the closing credits: "Theme Performed by Kelsey Grammer."
Subject: 5.06 Has anybody noticed that some lines in the theme song change?
Yes. The different variations of the theme are documented in Dean Adams's
_Frasier_ Program Guide. (See "Is there an episode guide?")
