See reader questions & answers on this topic! - Help others by sharing your knowledge The MIT Kerberos 5 release can speak the Kerberos 4 protocol, assuming it was built with the --with-krb4 option (which is the default). So with a little work (see Question 2.8) you should be able to use all Kerberos 4 programs with your Kerberos 5 KDC and application servers. However, since the protocol is so different, there is really no way to make Kerberos 5 clients work with Kerberos 4 application servers and KDCs.
