What industry standards are utilized in storage management?

The standard for SAN management, as defined by SNIA is the Storage Management 
Initiative Specification (SMI-S).

In it's draft form, SMI-S was codenamed Bluefin.

What is WideSky?

WideSky is an initiative from EMC to get its proprietary management software to
run on other vendors' storage systems.

WideSky technology is integral to EMC's ControlCenter family of storage 
management products. WideSky is open to software developers via the EMC
Developers Program.

How is most storage managed today?

Because storage management standards are fairly new, most storage is managed
today utilizing one or more of the following technologies: 

- SNMP 
- telnet 
- HTTP 
- Proprietary thick-client management software applications

What RFC's relate to storage management?

The most directly relevant RFC is RFC 2837: Definitions of Managed Objects
for the Fabric Element in Fibre Channel Standard.

A draft RFC proposing a standard Fibre Channel Management MIB is currently
being reviewed.
