Then why do I see them printed in magazines which are obviously
not going to be read by machines?

The syntax may have been designed for machine parsing, but in
fact they are read by humans: to check to see if it's a familiar
site, to try to figure out who maintains it, to copy from print
to computer.

Even if the change also enhances the human reader's ability to
comprehend the document?

Needless to say, I disagree.
