Epson WorkForce GT-1500 USB Legal Flatbed Scanner w/ADF

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

The attorney's office where I work recently got an Epson scanner because our only scanner was a letter-size flatbed unit. It took forever to scan a document, and if it was on legal paper, it took even longer.

The GT-1500 paid for itself in two weeks because of the time it saved clerical personnel due to not having to use the antiquated machinery we had. Of course, there are many other scanners that could have served the same purpose, but not many of them could boast a $280 price tag like the Epson.

It's not the fastest scanner on the market, but with the document feeder it can push through twenty pages per minute, and it has hands free operation. One great thing is the scans are very clear and ready to publish without having to spend hours cleaning them up. The 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution is about all you need for almost anything you need to produce.

When I first used the scanner, the thing that impressed me was there was no warm up time like the scanners I had used in the past. This feature alone makes it a better piece of equipment. I remember all the time that was wasted in the past waiting for the scanners to get ready to go.

When scanning, you have the options to scan to emails or pdf files. It doesn't take long to learn the simple controls and get started.

The twenty pages per minute is the speed for typed documents; when scanning pictures or other detailed color documents, the yield is only about twelve pages per minute.

The only bad thing to say about the scanner is that the feeder capacity is only forty sheets of paper, which requires closer monitoring of the equipment. This isn't a huge flaw, and based on the faster speed that the machine can maintain, productivity is still much better than what our office had come to expect.
