Coleman 2000005512 Instant 14x10 Foot 8 Person Two Room Tent

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

We camp on a regular basis, and we finally decided to purchase a large sized tent for our family outings. We chose the Coleman 14x10 spacious tent for several reasons.

* the size; this tent will accommodate up to 8 people easily
* ease of assembly allows set up in less than 5 minutes
* this tent has a welded floor surface and waterproof sides
* it has a removable divider making two rooms and two entry doors
* price is reasonable with a MSRP of $199

Coleman is a name synonymous with camping and we've used their products regularly throughout the years. The windows open so you can get some air and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and there's plenty of room inside.

One down side is you would expect a tent this large to have some interior pockets and compartments for storing items off the floor, but it is sorely lacking in that regard. Items are easily lost with no storage pockets on the walls.

The stakes for the tent are not very sturdy, but this is not a big deal as they can be easily replaced. Getting the tent out of the carrying bag is easy, however putting it back in afterwards is tricky, but it can be done with some effort. I wish the bag were bigger.

This is not a tent for backpackers and was not designed to be weighing in at 43 pounds. We've used the tent twice in moderate rain and not experienced any leakage. I am not sure how it will hold up in a lengthy heavier period of rainfall.

My husband loves the room divider because we are more organized than the kids and prefer to keep our tent area picked up, sorted, and cleaner than they do. The dividers are attached permanently to the tent itself, so keeping up with the dividers is not difficult.

My husband and I do like the option in a tent to be able to view the night sky when the weather is clear, but this Coleman tent does not offer that. It would be a nice added feature to have and it would help with tent ventilation, too.

Aside from the missing top ventilation and the flimsy stakes, the tent is incredibly roomy. It is heavy and long, making it difficult for a small framed person to carry alone, and as mentioned above, it is too heavy for backpacking. For family camping, I give it a 4 out of 5.
