IrDA(TM) is an industrial standard for infrared wireless communication, and most laptops made after January 1996 are equipped with an IrDA(TM) compliant infrared transceiver.
     
  • Ingres II HOWTO - helps install the Ingres II Relational Database Management System on Linux. It covers the setup of both the free Software Development Kit and the full version of Ingres. Further sections try to make it easier to start working with Ingres.
     
  • The Linux Installation HOWTO - describes how to obtain and install Linux software. It is the first document which a new Linux user should read to get started.

Thie is very helpful if you do not have the Java source code file and have only the Java class files.

  • The Linux keyboard and console HOWTO - contains some information about the Linux keyboard and console, and the use of non-ASCII characters. It describes Linux 2.0.
     
  • RedHat Linux KickStart HOWTO - describes how to use the RedHat Linux KickStart system to rapidly install large numbers of identical Linux boxes. For advanced users, we describe how to modify the KickStart installation procedure to do your own thing, and give a quick guide to building RPM packages of your own.
     
  • Kiosk HOWTO Gene Wilburn, ITS Dept, Royal Ontario - provides a guide for setting up a WWW-based kiosk using Linux, X11R6, FVWM2, Netscape Navigator 4.X, and a customized trackball. It outlines the methods that were used to create a public kiosk for the Hands On Biodiversity Gallery at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto.
     
  • Kodak Digital Camera HOWTO - The purpose of this document is to help one get their Kodak digital camera working under GNU/Linux. The scope of the document may change at any time to include more camera models. As of the current version this document does support some other models than ones sold under the Kodak name.
     
  • LDAP Linux HOWTO - Information about installing, configuring, running and maintaining a LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) Server on a Linux machine is presented on this document. The document also presents details about how to create LDAP databases, how to add, how to update and how to delete information on the directory.
     
  • LDAP Implementation HOWTO - describes the technical aspects of storing application data in an ldap server. It focuses on the configuration of various applications to make them ldap-aware. Some applications that assist in handling ldap data are also discussed.

  • LILO, Linux Crash Rescue HOW-TO - discusses methods to recover from Linux system failures.   • Linksys Blue Box Router HOWTO - Linksys makes a line of cheap, ubiquitous router/firewall boxes (models BEFSR41 and up) well-suited for use on a home DSL connection and popular among Linux hackers. This HOWTO gives hints and tips for managing Linksys routers from a Linux system, including the firmware upgrade procedure.
     
  • Linmodem-HOWTO - describes Linmodem (winmodem hardware) support under Linux. While such support is limited (almost exclusively in the form of manufacturer-created, but unsupported, binary kernel modules), the number of chipsets with some form of support is growing rapidly.

  • Linux Migration to Promise RAID Card HOWTO - aims to outline the steps of how to migrate an existing (Red Hat) Linux install onto a Promise TX2 Card for the purposes of RAID-1 Mirroring. Although I am concentrating on Red Hat, the same principles may be applied to any other distribution.

  • Loopback Encrypted Filesystem HOWTO - explains how to setup and then use a filesystem that, when mounted by a user, dynamically and transparently encrypts its contents. The filesystem is stored in a regular file, which can be hidden or named non-conspicuously such that it would most likely be overlooked. This allows for a high level of secure storage of data.

  • Managing Multiple Operating Systems HOWTO - covers the procedures for using removable hard disks to install and manage multiple alternative operating systems while leaving a single fixed disk to permanently house and protect the primary operating system. It is very scalable and offers a good degree of protection to and a stable disk environment for the primary operating system.
     
  • Mutt-i, GnuPG and PGP Howto - briefly explains how to configure Mutt-i, PGP and GnuPG in its diferents versions (2.6.x, 5.x and GnuPG), noting the common problems that can occur while sending signed or encrypted mail to be read by mail clients not PGP/MIME compliants as defined in RFC2015 and in other operating systems. It also includes an example of procmail configuration to send the public keys automatically to received e-mails asking for it, as a key servers does.

  • NCURSES Programming HOWTO - intended to be an "All in One" guide for programming with ncurses and its sister libraries. We graduate from a simple "Hello World" program to more complex form manipulation. No prior experience in ncurses is assumed.

  • Network-Install-HOWTO - describes how to install Linux over a Local Area Network (LAN). It covers setting up and administrating the install server machine as well as installing client machines from your server. Since Network Installation is distribution dependent it covers SuSE, Redhat and Debian installs but also includes a generic Linux network install guide.
