Born: Winona Laura Horowitz; October 29, 1971; in Winona, MN to =
Cindy
            and Michael Horowitz.

Siblings: Sunyata (half-sister), Jubal (half-brother), Yuri (brother)

Height: 5 feet, 4 inches (162.5 centimetres)

Weight: 103 pounds (46.7 kilograms)

Eyes: Brown/Hazel. I've never actually seen Winona in person, but =
her
eyes sometimes appear to change color; I guess it depends on =
how
            she's lit.

Hair: Brown. There's been some debate on this one. Someone posted=
 to
alt.fan.winona-ryder that they read an article in which she =
said
her hair was blonde and dyed it because she thought she =
looked
weird with such pale skin and dark eyes and light hair. I =
read an
interview where Winona said her mother cut all of her hair =
off
because it wasn't her natural color anymore. In the photos
accompanying the interview, she appeared to have kind of
brownish/dirty blondish hair; again, I guess it depends on =
how
she's lit. After the initial posting of this FAQ, I received=
 an
e-mail from someone who says she's known Winona since '84, =
and
says brown. So brown it is.

Although born in Winona (she was named for the town), Winona grew up in
Petaluma, CA. Among her favorite authors are J.D. Salinger (The Catcher =
in
the Rye being her favorite book), Jane Austin and Charlotte Bronte. =
Favorite
musicians include Tom Waits and Soul Asylum (but it remains to be seen =
how
high up on her list they are since she recently broke up with lead singer=
 Dave
Pirner). Winona says the first time she was proud of her acting was in =
"The
Age of Innocence", but of all her films, "Heathers" remains her favorite;=
 she
mentions it in just about every interview I've ever read, and has =
pestered
"Heathers" scribe Dan Waters to write a sequel for years.

2.2-> Where can I write to Winona Ryder?

Winona recently parted ways with her agency (CAA). If anyone knows who =
her
current management is, please e-mail me.

The British film "Withnail and I" is among her favorites; in a recent =
(October
'95) interview, Richard E. Grant says that he appears in both "Bram =
Stoker's
Dracula" and "The Age of Innocence" largely because Winona loved his =
portrayal
of Withnail. In an earlier interview (November '89), she lists her =
favorites
as follows: "A Face in the Crowd"; "To Kill a Mockingbird"; "Opening =
Night",
"Tempest" (1982); "Picnic at Hanging Rock"; "Gallipolli"; "Don't Look =
Now";
"Walkabout"; "West Side Story"; "Something Wild" (1961); "The Stripper".=20
Another article mentions "Brazil" and "My Life as a Dog" as favorites. =
The
British series "Prime Suspect" is also a favorite of her's.

2.4-> Where can I get pictures of Winona on the Internet?

=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
Please see section 3 of the FAQ for a list of sites.

2.5-> How do I uudecode pictures posted to Usenet groups?

=46or the answer to this one, you should check out the newsgroups:

and so on.)

2.6-> Has Winona ever done nudity? Where can I get nude photos of her? =
Will
      she appear nude soon?
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=

=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D
=46or those of us interested in Winona's work (as well as the female =
readership
of this group), these may seem like ridiculous questions, nonetheless, =
they
are "Frequently Asked Questions", so I will address them.

Winona has repeatedly stated in interviews that she will not do any nude
scenes in films, so don't hold your breath waiting for her to appear in
Showgirls 2. There are several allegedly nude photos of her floating =
around
the Internet, but I cannot attest to their artistic value, quality, or =
even
reality -- anybody with the right software can manipulate any image. If =
you
want them, keep your eyes peeled; they tend to pop up in various =
newsgroups
from time to time. Please don't e-mail me asking for one, I don't have =
any.

2.7-> Does Winona have an Internet e-mail address?
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
She used to have an America Online account (see, not all their members =
are bad
people :), but the e-mail address in no longer valid (three guesses why =
;).=20
If she has any other kind of Internet access, it's news to me.

2.8-> Who is Polly Klaas? Why is the film "Little Women" dedicated to =
her?
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
Technically, these are not "Frequently Asked Questions", but they are
important ones (to me, at least).

Polly Klaas was a little girl from Winona's home town of Petaluma who was
kidnapped. Moved by the situation upon hearing of it, Winona offered a =
reward
for Polly's safe return, but tragically, Polly was found murdered.=20
Subsequently, The Polly Klaas Foundation, a non-profit organization =
dedicated
to the search for missing children everywhere, was formed by Polly's =
father,
Marc Klaas, and Bill Rhodes, a prominent figure in the Petaluma =
community.=20
Winona is on the Foundation's Board of Directors. The book "Little =
Women" was
Polly's favorite; Winona used her clout to get the film made and =
dedicated to
Polly.
