Most hedgehogs have only a pointed little nub of tail that spends almost all of its time hidden under the quills. This leaves the poor hedgehog looking for all the world like he doesn't have a tail. Here are a few interesting words from Katherine Long on hedgehog tails: My hhog, Ambergris, uses her tail - it isn't a useless appendage. She uses it as a pusher when she is trying to go underneath stuff. Strange and wondrous.
